Hotel Description

You know what surprised me about the ibis Bordeaux Centre Meriadeck? It’s actually in one of those modern business districts that could feel sterile, but somehow it works perfectly as a base for exploring Bordeaux. The hotel sits right on cours du Maréchal Juin – which honestly sounds more impressive than it looks, since it’s basically a wide boulevard lined with contemporary office buildings and that massive Mériadeck shopping complex. But here’s the thing: you’re literally a 10-minute walk from the stunning old town, and the tram stops right outside, so you get the best of both worlds without the tourist crowds sleeping on top of you.

The lobby has that clean, no-nonsense ibis vibe – think bright colors and modern furniture that’s clearly designed to handle lots of foot traffic. Check-in was smooth (they actually had my room ready early, which never happens to me), and the staff spoke solid English, though they seemed genuinely pleased when I attempted my terrible French. The rooms are… well, they’re ibis rooms, so you know what you’re getting – compact but smartly designed, with those signature red accents and a bathroom that somehow fits everything you need into the space of a closet. The bed was surprisingly comfortable though, and the air conditioning actually worked, which felt like a miracle during that heat wave last summer. One small thing that bugged me: the walls are a bit thin, so if you get stuck next to a family with kids or some business travelers having loud phone calls, you’ll know about it.

What I really appreciated was how the location worked out in practice. Sure, Mériadeck isn’t the prettiest part of Bordeaux – it’s got that 1970s urban planning feel with lots of concrete and geometric buildings – but it’s incredibly practical. There’s a huge Carrefour in the shopping center if you need supplies, decent cafés for morning coffee, and you can walk to Place Gambetta or the Grand Théâtre without breaking a sweat. The real win is being close to the Chartrons district, which has become this amazing area for wine bars and local restaurants that most tourists completely miss. I mean, you could stay in the heart of the old town and pay twice as much, but then you’d be dodging cruise ship groups all day. Here, you get to feel like you’re discovering the city rather than just checking off landmarks. For a 3-star place with a 7.8 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises – clean, comfortable, and well-positioned for actually experiencing Bordeaux like someone who lives there, not just someone passing through with a guidebook.

Clean nice room and good location. We asked to have our room close to each other and nice receptionist was able to give us nice rooms close by.

  • Graham from United Kingdom (8/10)

everything great except the meal we had at the in house restaurant which was disgusting. One meal osso buco de veau, was uneatable, and sent, back was like leather. mostly bone and grissle.
They still made a full charge for it. service poor and over priced. Breakfast excellent choice and high quality.

Marvelous location, right beside the excellent tram service. Walkable to many restaurants and attractions. Friendly, helpful staff.

  • Georgiana from Romania (9/10)

Good breakfast, the same every day, but well balanced (fried ham, omlette, camembert, yougourt, cereals, jambon, nuts, croissants, pain ou chocolat, different types of bread, butter, jam, good coffee, tea).

  • Tamer from Australia (9/10)

It was a great cheap option in Bordeaux. It was a quick walk to the centre of town.

The people at the hotel were nice in majority (something that I expected from the French people).
