Honestly, when I first walked up to 26 Rue Huguerie, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another old Bordeaux building – but man, was I wrong. This little suite on the second floor turned out to be exactly what I needed after spending way too much money on overpriced city center hotels in the past. The air conditioning alone made me want to write a thank-you note (and I’m saying this as someone who visited during that brutal July heat wave when half of France felt like a sauna).

You know what really got me? The location is just… perfect. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of everything – I could stumble out the front door and be at Place de la Bourse in maybe five minutes, and the Saturday market at Marché des Capucins was an easy walk with my morning coffee. The street itself is pretty quiet considering you’re smack in the center, though you’ll definitely hear some weekend nightlife if you’re a light sleeper. But honestly, that’s just Bordeaux being Bordeaux. What I loved was being able to walk to all those incredible wine bars around Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges without worrying about catching the last tram back to some suburb. The suite itself feels way more spacious than most places you’ll find in this area – and trust me, I’ve stayed in some closet-sized “apartments” that cost twice as much. The whole setup just works, you know?

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t some fancy hotel with a concierge and room service (which actually turned out to be a relief for my wallet). It’s more like staying in a really well-thought-out apartment that someone actually cares about. The check-in was super straightforward, parking… well, you’re in central Bordeaux, so good luck with that, but there’s a decent public garage about two blocks away on Cours de l’Intendance. I ended up just using the tram system anyway – way easier than dealing with those narrow medieval streets. What really sealed the deal for me was coming back after long days of wine tasting in Saint-Émilion and just cranking up that AC while planning the next day’s adventures. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make a place feel like home, even when you’re 1,000 miles away from it.
