Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hôtel Majestic? It’s actually on this quiet little street – Rue De Condé – that most tourists never find, but you’re literally a three-minute walk from Place Gambetta. I mean, you get that perfect sweet spot where you can sleep without hearing drunk people stumbling back from the wine bars at 2 AM, but you’re still right in the thick of everything.

The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone thing going on, and honestly, walking into the lobby feels like stepping into someone’s elegant aunt’s house – if your aunt had impeccable taste and a serious budget. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re dealing with jet lag and trying to figure out where to get decent coffee at 7 AM (it’s Café Utopia around the corner, by the way). The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star – nothing groundbreaking, but the beds are legitimately comfortable and the bathrooms have that rainfall shower head that actually works. I stayed on the third floor and could just glimpse the Cathedral spires if I craned my neck out the window, though I’ll be honest, the real charm is just soaking up the street-level energy of the old city.

What really sets this place apart is how the concierge – this guy Philippe who’s been in Bordeaux forever – will steer you toward the wine shops locals actually use instead of the tourist traps near the Grand Théâtre. He sent me to this tiny place on Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges where I ended up buying bottles I still think about. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but that’s actually perfect because you’re surrounded by bistros and brasseries, and Philippe will call ahead to get you a table at places that are usually booked solid. There’s no gym or spa or any of that stuff, but come on – you’re in Bordeaux, you should be walking along the Garonne and exploring the Chartrons district anyway. The 9.2 rating makes total sense to me because this isn’t trying to be everything to everyone. It’s just doing the classic French boutique hotel thing really, really well. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually recommend rather than some generic chain, this is your spot.

The woman who checked us in and out is one of the most professional and gracious front desk staff I have met in a long time. 🙂 She made a favorable impression. The room was lovely with nice firm mattresses. Breakfast was really perfect for us with a nice assortment. Coffee is surprisingly good!

Everything—location, facilités and staff. Comfortable beds, lovely bathroom with a great shower. And the staff go out of your way to help, like getting me decaf pods and some milk for the Nespresso machine, and a blanket and sheet for the bed, instead of a down coverlet, which is too warm for us.

  • Debbie from United States (9/10)

Excellent location, central and walking distance to places we wanted to go. One block from the tourism information center and tram station. We had a rental car and parking was easier than expected.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel was very charming and newly renovated. The rooms are quite nicely decorated with simple furniture. We especially like the reception area where we had a place to chat with friends over coffee after a long day out. The cookies and sweet were delicious.
    Highly recommend this boutique hotel.
