Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hôtel La Tour Intendance? The name actually makes sense when you see it – there’s this old stone tower right there on Rue de La Vieille Tour, and honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing the hotel was tucked right beside it. The whole street has this lived-in Bordeaux feel, not touristy at all, which I mean… that’s exactly what you want when you’re staying in the city center.

The building itself is classic Bordeaux – those cream-colored stone facades that look golden when the afternoon light hits just right. Inside, they’ve done this thing where it feels boutique-ish without trying too hard, if that makes sense. The lobby’s small but there’s actually character here, not like those cookie-cutter places. What really sold me was the staff – they knew the neighborhood inside and out. When I asked about dinner spots, the guy at the front desk didn’t just rattle off the obvious places near Place de la Bourse. He sent me to this wine bar on Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it ended up being the highlight of my trip.

The rooms are… well, they’re 3-star rooms, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or anything, but everything works and it’s actually quiet at night, which surprised me given how central you are. You can walk to the Grand Théâtre in maybe eight minutes, and the tram stop at Place de la Comédie is literally around the corner – super handy if you’re planning to hit the wine regions during the day. Speaking of wine regions, the concierge knows her stuff about day trips to Saint-Émilion and Médoc. She helped me book this small group tour that picked up right from Place des Quinconces, which saved me the headache of figuring out train schedules. The area gets busy during the summer wine season (July through September), but even then, Rue de La Vieille Tour stays relatively calm – it’s just off the main tourist circuit enough that you’re not dealing with crowds right outside your door. One thing to note: parking’s typical for central Bordeaux, meaning it’s a bit of a puzzle, but there’s a public garage about three blocks away if you’re driving. Most mornings I’d grab coffee from this little place on Cours de l’Intendance – that’s the pedestrian shopping street that’s literally a two-minute walk – and just wander through the old quarter before the day started properly. That’s the real charm of staying here, actually. You’re in the thick of things but you’ve got this quiet base to retreat to.

  • Vitali from Poland (8/10)

Located in the city center, walking distance to the main attractions, good value for money.

  • Karen from Canada (9/10)

Location was excellent, staff was friendly, professional and helpful. Some may find the standard room small, but we were comfortable there. We travel to experience a place, not to stay in rooms that are like ours at home in Canada.

  • Robert from United States (9/10)

Great location, right in the heart of Bordeaux’s golden triangle. Easy walk to all the main attractions.
