Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The moment you step inside, it doesn’t feel like a typical hotel at all – it’s more like staying in someone’s really well-appointed apartment, which I guess makes sense given the “Grand T2” in the name. The standing part of the title isn’t just marketing fluff either; this is genuinely a cut above what you’d expect from a 3-star place in Bordeaux.
I mean, the location on Rue de Ruat is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it. You’re right in the thick of things but tucked away enough that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM (trust me, I’ve made that mistake before in other French cities). Walk five minutes in any direction and you’ll hit either the cathedral, Place de la Bourse, or honestly some of the best wine bars I’ve found in Bordeaux – and I say that as someone who’s spent way too much time hunting down the perfect glass of local Cabernet Sauvignon. The tram stops are close enough that you can easily get to the train station or venture out to the wine regions, but far enough that you won’t hear them rumbling by all night.
What really impressed me was the attention to detail in the apartment itself. The kitchen actually works – I’m talking proper appliances, not those sad hotel kitchenettes that can barely heat water. I ended up cooking a few meals with ingredients from the Saturday market at Marché des Capucins, which is maybe a 10-minute walk away. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (sometimes these apartment-style places skimp on the mattress), and the whole space had this lived-in elegance that felt authentically Bordeaux without being stuffy. The bathroom was modern but not sterile, if that makes sense. Actually, the whole place struck that balance really well – updated amenities but with character intact.
Honestly, the 8.7 rating doesn’t surprise me at all. The staff clearly knows what they’re doing, and check-in was smooth even though I arrived later than planned thanks to a delayed train from Paris. They gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t tourist traps, which I always appreciate. The only minor thing – and I’m really reaching here – is that the Wi-Fi could be a bit faster, but it’s perfectly fine for staying connected and getting work done if you need to.
This isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find a concierge in a fancy uniform or turn-down service, but that’s sort of the point. It’s for people who want to experience Bordeaux like they actually live there, even if it’s just for a few days. If you’re the type who needs room service and daily housekeeping, this might not be your speed. But if you want to grab fresh bread from the boulangerie around the corner, make coffee in your own kitchen, and walk to dinner through streets that feel genuinely local rather than designed for tourists – well, you’ll get why this place has such loyal guests.

What could be improved: we liked everything about Bordeaux.Highly recommend this one bedroom comfortable apartment for one couple. – Tina from United States – 13 May 2023 (9/10)
Such a quiet street in a very central, safe and convenient location cannot be beat. The accommodations had just about everything we needed including fast free internet. Communication with Sophie was excellent.
What could be improved: A few extra incidentals would have been nice like an extra set of linens with softer sheets, pillowcases and towels, a couple umbrellas to borrow and a portable standing make up mirror. Also basic instructions to use the 2-in-1 washer/dryer would be nice.
