Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Résidence Seaport on Rue Lucie Aubrac, I wasn’t expecting much from this corner of Bordeaux. But this two-bedroom apartment (it’s number 3-136 in Building B, if you’re trying to find it) completely changed my mind about staying outside the historic center.
The terrace is what really got me. I mean, you hear “terrace” and think maybe a tiny balcony with room for one sad plastic chair, but this actually has space to sprawl out with your morning coffee and – if you’re into that sort of thing – watch the neighborhood wake up. The Seaport area isn’t touristy at all, which honestly feels refreshing after dealing with crowds around Place de la Bourse. You’re staying where actual Bordelais live, and there’s something satisfying about picking up groceries at the local Carrefour instead of hunting for overpriced tourist spots. The apartment itself feels properly lived-in rather than sterile – the kind of place where you can actually picture yourself settling in for more than just a night or two.
What surprised me most was how well-connected this area is, even though it doesn’t feel central. The tram system here is no joke (seriously, French public transport puts most cities to shame), and you can get to the wine bars in Chartrons or the Saturday market at Marché des Capucins without much fuss. Parking was easier than I expected too – always a relief when you’re dragging suitcases around. The building itself is quiet, probably because it’s mostly residents rather than a constant rotation of travelers. I slept better here than I did at that boutique place near the cathedral where delivery trucks started rumbling at 5 AM.
The setup works especially well if you’re traveling with family or planning to stay more than a few days. Having two proper bedrooms means everyone gets their space, and honestly, after a day of walking around Bordeaux’s cobblestones, you appreciate having room to spread out. The kitchen isn’t just decorative either – I actually cooked dinner a couple times, which felt wonderfully normal after weeks of restaurant meals. You know what really sold me on the neighborhood? There’s this little boulangerie about a five-minute walk away where the woman behind the counter started recognizing me by day three. That’s the kind of detail that makes a place memorable.
Sure, you’re not going to stumble out your front door directly onto Rue Sainte-Catherine for shopping, but that trade-off gets you more space, less noise, and a glimpse of how Bordeaux actually functions beyond its postcard-perfect wine tourism image. Plus, at that 8.7 rating, other people clearly figured out what I did – sometimes the best spots are the ones that don’t immediately scream “tourist accommodation.”
