Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Family house Bordeaux on Rue Naujac, I wasn’t expecting much. The street’s pretty quiet, which actually turned out to be a blessing since you’re literally in the heart of the city center but without all that tourist chaos. You know what really got me though? The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place. It’s not trying to be some fancy chain hotel – it’s more like staying at your well-traveled aunt’s house, if your aunt happened to have impeccable taste and lived in one of France’s most beautiful cities.
The location is honestly perfect, and I mean that without the usual travel writer hyperbole. You’re about a three-minute walk from Place Gambetta, where all the good cafés are (grab coffee at Plume Petit Déjeuner if you get the chance), and maybe ten minutes on foot to the Grand Théâtre. I spent most mornings wandering down toward the Garonne, and the walk takes you through these gorgeous 18th-century streets that most tourists miss because they’re all clustered around the main squares. Parking can be a bit tricky – there’s street parking but it fills up fast, so I’d recommend the underground garage at Place Gambetta if you’re driving. The staff actually gave me a little hand-drawn map with shortcuts to avoid the morning crowds, which was such a thoughtful touch.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail without being fussy about it. The rooms have this lived-in elegance – think antique furniture that’s actually comfortable, not just for show. My room faced the courtyard, so mornings were blissfully quiet except for the occasional church bells (which, let’s be real, is exactly the kind of sound you want to wake up to in Bordeaux). The bathroom was modern but not sterile, and honestly, the water pressure was better than my apartment back home. I stayed during late spring when the weather was perfect for walking, but I noticed they had portable fans available, which tells me they think ahead for those sweltering July weeks. The 8.2 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but everything works exactly as it should, and the warmth of the place makes up for any minor quirks. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re actually experiencing Bordeaux rather than just sleeping in it, this is your spot.
Bordeaux’s hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic city center to elegant châteaux converted into luxury accommodations in the surrounding wine country.

Beautiful house in a quiet street but close to everything you need. – Aaron from United Kingdom – 14 September 2023 (8/10)
The location was great. The street is very quiet but only a few minutes from busier areas to eat, drink etc. The tram drop off is close by and means easy access to the whole of Bordeaux on the easy to navigate transport system. The house has a nice open plan living and dining area with original features throughout the property.
