Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Bordeaux apartments over the years, and this place on Quai des Chartrons actually surprised me – in the best way. You know how sometimes those online photos make everything look way better than reality? Well, this was the opposite. The space feels more spacious and polished than the listing suggests, with these gorgeous high ceilings that you just don’t expect in a converted warehouse district.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Bordeaux rather than just visiting it. Les Chartrons used to be where all the wine merchants stored their goods back in the day, and you can still see those old stone facades everywhere. What I love is that you’re literally steps from the Saturday organic market on Quai des Chartrons – I mean, you can smell the fresh bread and coffee from the apartment windows. The whole riverside walk is right there too, which locals use for jogging and evening strolls, so there’s always this gentle buzz of activity without being touristy chaos. Plus, and this matters more than you’d think, parking is actually manageable in this area compared to the city center madness.
The apartment itself has that refined-but-lived-in feeling that’s hard to fake. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just a mini-fridge and hot plate situation), and honestly, the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with French pillows all night. The bathroom’s modern without being sterile, and there’s decent water pressure – small things, but they matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. What really won me over though was how quiet it gets at night, despite being on a main quai. The building’s solid, and once the evening river traffic dies down, you sleep really well. I stayed during wine harvest season when the city was pretty busy, and it still felt like a peaceful retreat. The only minor thing – well, the check-in process was a bit more complicated than I expected, lots of key codes and instructions, but once you’re settled it’s seamless. If you’re the type who wants to duck into wine bars after exploring the antique shops on rue Notre-Dame, or catch the tram into town for dinner, this spot just works. It’s got that perfect balance of being in the thick of things but not overwhelmed by them.

I was travelling on my own and I felt the location was safe. It was also in a lovely area. The wonderful Bordeaux tram system had a stop almost opposite. There were several restaurants and cafes nearby. The flat was beautiful and very comfortable. Stephane, who met me, was very welcoming and told me of many places to visit – some not on the usual tourist trail. I would highly recommend this appartment.

The flat was superb and had everything we needed for our stay including the comfiest bed. The location was so convenient for the trams and for trips to the bars by the side of the river. We would not hesitate to return.
