Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Edgar Suites? Walking into this elegant townhouse on Rue Gouvea, you’d never guess from the street that you’re about to step into something this polished. I mean, the entrance is literally on the first floor (which threw me for a minute until I remembered we’re in France), but once you’re inside – honestly, it feels like staying in a really well-designed Parisian apartment, just with better housekeeping.
The location is actually perfect if you want to be right in the thick of things without dealing with tourist chaos. Rue Sainte-Catherine is literally around the corner, and I’m talking about the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe here – you can grab everything from cheap eats to designer stuff without getting in a car. But here’s the thing locals know: duck down the side streets like Rue Gouvea and suddenly you’re in this quieter pocket where actual Bordelais live and work. There’s this little bakery two doors down that does these incredible canelés (you have to try them, seriously), and the whole area has that lived-in neighborhood feel during the day, then transitions into wine bar territory at night. The tram stops at Place de la Comédie are maybe a four-minute walk, which means you can easily hit the wine regions or cross over to the right bank without thinking about it.
What really impressed me – and I stay in a lot of hotels for work – is how they’ve nailed the details that actually matter. The suites have proper kitchenettes with decent appliances, not those sad mini-fridges and hot plates you usually get. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the soundproofing is solid, which matters because Bordeaux can get lively, especially during wine harvest season. The staff seems to actually know the city too, not just the usual tourist script. When I asked about where to find good natural wine bars, the guy at reception sent me to this tiny place on Rue des Bahutiers that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, parking… well, you’re in central Bordeaux, so street parking is a bit of a game, but there are a couple of public garages nearby if you’re driving. Honestly though, you probably won’t need a car once you’re settled in – everything worth doing is either walkable or a quick tram ride away. The 9.2 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything just works the way it should, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Bordeaux at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous cultural festivals.

Edgar Suites is such a great find in Bordeaux. It’s spacious, has everything you need – including a washing machine that dries, was spotlessly clean and is in the most fantastic location. Literally 3metres from Rue de Saint Catherine, the main walkway through Bordeaux. What makes this exceptional though is the availability and communication of Erwin and Edgar. So helpful! Erwin showed us how everything works, gave great advice and also had the fans going when we arrived because the day was warm. A box of cannele, Bordeaux’s specialty sweets, and a tote bag as gifts were given to us as well. Brilliant!

Edgar is a wonderful host. The apartment fully met expectations. Small apartment, just what we wanted for a family of 3 people. Very quiet. Very clean. Good mattresses on the sleeping beds. There is a large parking lot nearby. We rented a car for several days to travel around the area

Everything! Amazing location, property is spotless and has everything one might need for a short stay. You can walk to Bordeaux’s main attractions and the neighborhood is very safe. It is a couple of minutes away from the tramway (takes you everywhere including the airport). The staff is super friendly and helpful. We are very grateful for an awesome stay! Thank you!
