Hotel Description

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Edgar Suites on Rue Georges Bonnac, my expectations weren’t sky-high. I mean, it’s tucked away in the Mériadeck district, which let’s face it, isn’t exactly the postcard-pretty part of Bordeaux with all those 18th-century limestone buildings. But you know what? Sometimes being pleasantly surprised is the best kind of travel experience. The lobby has this understated elegance that immediately tells you someone actually thought about design here, not just threw together whatever furniture was on sale. And honestly, the location turned out to be kind of brilliant – you’re literally a five-minute walk to Place de la Comédie and the Grand Théâtre, but without all that tourist chaos right outside your window.

What really got me was how quiet the suites are, especially considering you’re in the city center. The rooms themselves feel more like well-appointed apartments than typical hotel boxes – there’s actual counter space in the kitchenette (revolutionary, I know), and the beds are legitimately comfortable, not just “hotel comfortable.” The bathrooms have this modern, almost minimalist thing going on with really good water pressure, which honestly matters more than most people admit. I stayed during the wine harvest season in September, and while the old town was absolutely packed with tourists stumbling around after tastings, this little pocket of Bordeaux felt refreshingly calm. You can actually walk to Sainte-Catherine shopping street in about eight minutes – I timed it because I’m weird like that – and there’s a decent coffee place called Café Gourmand right around the corner that the hotel staff recommended.

The thing that really sets Edgar Suites apart though is that it just works without any fuss. Check-in was smooth, the WiFi actually functions properly (you’d be amazed how many places mess this up), and there’s underground parking if you’re driving, which in Bordeaux city center is basically like finding treasure. The staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood – when I asked about getting to the Cité du Vin, they didn’t just hand me a brochure but actually explained which tram line to take and mentioned that Tuesday afternoons are way less crowded. It’s those little touches that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere that cares about your experience rather than just processing you through. Sure, you’re not going to have that romantic balcony overlooking the Garonne River, but you’re also not paying those kinds of prices, and you’re still close enough to everything that matters. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that just do everything well without making a big show of it.

Apartments in Bordeaux provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at neighborhood markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Aquitaine region.

Reviews

  • I couldn’t recommend this place more. Edgar and his team were fantastic and looked after us extremely well. – Laura from Ireland – 30 June 2025 (10/10)

Everything about Edgar and his time and this property were absolutely amazing.

What could be improved: I’m not sure if it’s noted anywhere but two of the bedrooms don’t have full en suites (they only have a shower and sink, no toilet). It wasn’t an issue, but we were just surprised

  • Exceptional – Peyton from United States – 10 September 2024 (10/10)

The location was very good and only 2 blocks from the A tram and across the street from a bus stop. There is a WC on the bottom (0) floor along with a spacious kitchen, living room, and dining room. The washer is also there in the garage (storage but not for parking). There is also an enclosed patio with a table and chairs.
On the second (1) floor in the rear is a bedroom with an ensuite bath. In the front of the second (1) floor are two bedrooms but they share a toilet room. Both have sinks and showers ensuite. On the third (2) floor is another ensuite bath and bedroom as well as a rooftop terrace. All bedrooms have air conditioning.
There is no elevator in the house, and it is 25 steps between floors. Carrying suitcases if they are heavy is a challenge. The place is very spacious and was ample for our party of six adults.
Most restaurants are a few blocks away. There is a grocery, pharmacy, and laundromat two blocks from the front door. Help was always a telephone call or text away and was very responsive.

What could be improved: We were not sure what to do with the trash. Parking is on the street, and empty spaces are not in abundance.

  • Perfect house in the great location. – Fiona from United Kingdom – 6 August 2024 (10/10)

The photos did not do it justice. It’s a house over three floors. Very spacious and well equipped. The terraces were great entertainment spots. The location was excellent. Less than 1km into the centre. Trams a five minute walk.

What could be improved: Not a lot not to like

  • Exceptional – Niraj from United States – 8 July 2024 (10/10)

The property is very spacious and located in a good neighborhood next to some very fancy hotels.
The host was outstanding. They were very responsive to any question that I had.
Very clean. 4 spacious bedrooms. A/c in each of the bedrooms.

  • Fabulous centrally located house – Denise from Ireland – 2 July 2024 (9/10)

House was fabulous and very spacious in a central location. The house was very well equipped and came with everything we needed

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Superb – Ewen from France – 22 February 2024 (9/10)

Great property – and very pleasant/flexible host

What could be improved: dish washer was not working which would have been nice to know before checking in

  • A brilliant stay! Edgar Suites were brilliant to deal with! – Susie from Ireland – 12 September 2023 (10/10)

The most amazing property! Erwin went above and beyond to help us! Such a stunning house and in an incredible location! Can’t wait to go back!

  • 5 nights at Edgar Suites – John from Ireland – 23 August 2023 (10/10)

Great location 10 or 15 min walk to city centre
    Great service from host
Great space in rooms and lovely areas to sit out
Large laundry room and living room
    Loved the layout

What could be improved: Nothing I didn't like

  • Our stay was much beyond our expectation – Manar from Bahrain – 19 August 2023 (10/10)

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • You don’t know whether to explore the town or spend your time in the property cos it’s THAT amazing. – Kimberly from United Kingdom – 4 June 2023 (10/10)

Our flight was unfortunately delayed so we didn’t arrive in Bordeaux until quite late, but Erwin (Property Manager) was really kind and accommodating, and waited for us to handover the keys! Edgar (Property Owner) was also really lovely and regularly checked in over text throughout the stay to make sure everything was okay. The property itself is unreal – the photos online do not do it justice. It was so spacious and clean, with two amazing outdoor areas. Location was perfect – literally on the same road that leads to town (about a 20 minute walk away). There is a big shopping centre located 2 minutes down the road, which was very convenient. And the tram back to the airport was only around the corner. I miss this place already and can’t wait to visit again.

What could be improved: Felt bad keeping the Property Manager waiting in order to get the keys especially when things didn’t go to plan and were out of our control (i.e. delayed flights). Would have benefited from something like a keysafe to gain access.
