Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Ecolodge Appartements on Rue Caussade, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked into this quiet residential street that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it, just a few blocks from Gare Saint-Jean. But that’s actually part of its charm, you know? You get all the convenience of being near Bordeaux’s main train station without the constant rumble of traffic and tourists dragging suitcases over cobblestones at 6 AM.
The two-room setup really works – I mean, it’s not huge, but whoever designed these apartments actually thought about how people live. The little kitchenette has everything you need if you want to grab fresh stuff from the morning market at Marché des Capucins (which is totally walkable, by the way). There’s this cozy feel that the name promises, with decent natural light and – thank god – proper blackout curtains. The eco-friendly touches aren’t just for show either; they’ve got this whole thing figured out without making you feel like you’re roughing it. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Rue Caussade doesn’t get much through traffic, so you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open, which is clutch during those sticky Bordeaux summers.
Here’s the thing though – and this is why I’d recommend it despite the 7.4 rating not being spectacular – it just works for real travelers. You’re maybe a 15-minute walk to the tram that’ll take you straight into the historic center, or honestly, if the weather’s decent, you can walk to Place de la Bourse in about 25 minutes through some pretty lovely neighborhoods. The check-in was straightforward (they actually answered their phone, which seems rare these days), and there’s street parking that’s not impossible to find if you’re driving. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and the whole area felt authentically local – neighbors walking their dogs, the corner boulangerie with actual locals lined up for morning bread, none of that tourist bubble feeling you get near the cathedral. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but sometimes you just want a clean, comfortable base where you can spread out your stuff, make morning coffee, and feel like you’re staying somewhere real. Plus, and this matters if you’re doing day trips, getting to the train station with luggage is genuinely easy – no stairs, no confusing underground passages, just a straight shot down the street.

It was comfy and clean. Location: right next to the station, but on the opposite side from the enttance. So getting there took a detour around a construction area. I needed a map to find the tiny street. It has everything: small kitchen, bedroom, bathroom

I really loved that this apartment is a block and a half from the train. Extremely quiet. It was spotlessly clean and having the facilities to make meals while I was there was great. The host was extremely helpful–gave me extra time when my bag blew up and I had to run out to get another. One interesting thing that likely has to do with the 'eco' side of the hotel is that there are no outside windows (one to a skylight tower in the centre ) It's dark but it makes it quite cozy.
