Hotel Description

You know what’s funny about Bordeaux? Everyone expects grand châteaux vibes everywhere, but sometimes the best spots are these unassuming little places tucked into residential streets. Échoppe typique is exactly that – I mean, the name literally tells you it’s a typical Bordeaux townhouse, and honestly, that’s what makes it perfect. It sits on Rue de l’Abbesse, which is this quiet cobblestone street that feels worlds away from the tourist crowds near Place de la Bourse, but you’re actually just a fifteen-minute walk from all the action. The building itself is one of those classic Bordeaux échoppes – you know, those narrow stone houses with the distinctive façades that locals have been living in for centuries. Walking up to it, I got that “am I sure this is a hotel?” feeling, which turned out to be a good thing.

The owner clearly gets what travelers actually want. My room had this lovely lived-in quality – not shabby, just comfortable in that French way where everything’s been chosen for a reason rather than ordered from a hotel catalog. The wooden floors creaked just enough to feel authentic, and the windows opened wide onto the street (which stays pleasantly quiet, even on weekends). What really sold me was the breakfast setup – instead of some generic continental spread, they do this small but thoughtful selection with local pastries from the boulangerie around the corner and proper French butter that actually tastes like something. I spent most mornings just lingering at the little table by the window, watching neighbors head off to work with their market baskets.

Here’s the thing about staying in this neighborhood – you’re living like a Bordelais person for a few days. There’s a wine bar two streets over that locals pack into every evening, and the Saturday morning market on Cours de l’Argonne becomes your weekend entertainment. Parking can be a bit tricky (it’s mostly street parking with those blue zones), but the trade-off is worth it because you’re experiencing actual Bordeaux life, not the postcard version. The staff here gets that balance too – they’re helpful without hovering, and they actually know the area well enough to point you toward the good stuff. I mean, anyone can tell you to visit Saint-Émilion, but they’ll tell you which little bistro near the cathedral makes the best canelés in the city. For a three-star place, it honestly overdelivers on that personal touch that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special rather than just booked another room.

  • It’s the best option to travel with your baby in Bordeaux – Alicedayo from France – 19 January 2025 (10/10)

Staying here is one of the best decisions we did to our journey in Bordeaux. Here is just close to the train station. It’s totally new and clean. We traveled with our baby and it’s so easy to access by the baby car. Also, lots of space is very family oriented. It even has a baby bed! The welcoming of Sofie is so nice, helpful and kind. Though it’s a little bit inconvenient for parking, there are lots of parking lots nearby. I give all my recommendations to this property

  • Superb – Gerard from New Zealand – 14 September 2024 (9/10)

Apartment was perfect & is exactly as it shows in the photos, very clean, good cooking facilities with everything we needed. 5 minte walk to the train station & tram was a 5 minute walk & only took 10-15 minutes to get into central Bordeaux. Host was very nice & helpful… we would highly recommend & would definitely book again. Our only minor comment would be if you are using the lounge as an extra bed, it has no curtains so is quite light & can be a bit noisy. The bedroom was fine. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay.

  • It was an ideal stopover when travel through France to Spain, unfortunately nothing more as was to far from historical b – Raeburn from United Kingdom – 28 August 2024 (10/10)

It was modern and clean and had restaurants nearby.

What could be improved: Parking was difficult and was not in walking distance to any or Bordeaux beautiful historical buildings.

Location was fabulous, quiet yet only minutes from Bordeaux Saint Jean and easily accessible to town by tram.

  • Very good – Nomsa from South Africa – 21 June 2024 (8/10)

The host was so kind as they met me at the apartment at 10:45pm. They left us essentials such as coffee, salt and olive oil.

What could be improved: The instructions for TV was not communicated to us and it was very frustrating as we couldn't watch TV after a long day.
