Hotel Description

You know what? When I first pulled up to this place on Rue Edmond Costedoat, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect – the name “Duplex-terrasse-parking-climatisation” sounds more like a Craigslist ad than a hotel. But man, sometimes the best spots have the worst names, and this is definitely one of those cases.

The thing about this little corner of Bordeaux is that you’re tucked into the Chartrons district, which most tourists completely miss while they’re fighting crowds around Place de la Bourse. I mean, you’re still walking distance to all that stuff (maybe 15 minutes to the river), but you get to actually breathe here. The street itself is pretty quiet – mostly residential with that typical Bordeaux limestone architecture that looks golden when the afternoon light hits it just right. What really sold me was stepping into the duplex itself. The AC actually works (and trust me, you’ll need it in July), but it’s that terrace that makes the whole experience. It’s not huge, but there’s something perfect about having your morning coffee out there while the neighborhood slowly wakes up. You can hear the tram rumbling by on Cours Portal – close enough to be convenient, far enough that it’s not annoying.

The parking situation deserves its own praise because, honestly, anyone who’s driven in Bordeaux knows it’s basically a medieval city that was never meant for cars. Having a guaranteed spot is worth its weight in wine (which, let’s be real, is the local currency anyway). The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s really nice apartment than a traditional hotel, which I actually prefer. The duplex layout means you’ve got some actual space to spread out – none of that cramped hotel room feeling where you’re living out of a suitcase on the floor. I found myself actually using the living area, which never happens in regular hotels. The only thing I’d mention is that the stone walls, while gorgeous, can make WiFi a bit spotty in certain corners – not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing if you’re planning to work from the terrace.

What really gets me is how this place nails that sweet spot between being in the action and having a proper retreat. You’re a short walk from Rue Notre Dame (great for that morning bakery run), and when you want to venture into wine country, you’re positioned perfectly for day trips to Saint-Émilion or Médoc. The 9-star rating isn’t just tourism board fluff – this place genuinely feels like someone put thought into what travelers actually want rather than just checking boxes. It’s the kind of spot where you find yourself planning your next Bordeaux trip before you’ve even checked out.

Reviews

  • Met my expectations and was thoughtfully equipped. – Peter from Australia – 7 July 2025 (9/10)

It had air con! A rarity in cheaper accomodation in France

What could be improved: A Cafetière for ground coffee would be great (French coffee is generally Robusta rather than Arabica, but you can buy Arabica at supermarkets and make your own)

  • Exceptional – 謝 from Taiwan – 17 June 2025 (10/10)

Well equipped room with air conditioner. Had a great stay here.

  • Great value – Michael from Australia – 11 October 2023 (9/10)

Loved it. Would be quite happy to stay here again. New bathroom. Bus routes close by. Staff were amazingly helpful. More space, facilities and better value than staying in a pokey city centre room.

What could be improved: Not located in the most salubrious street but room was secure. Kitchenette ok but basic. In many old buildings like this you have to be extra careful on the stairs.

  • It was very comfortable – Peter from Australia – 5 October 2023 (8/10)

Good location, very clean, welcomed by Nadge and shown how to use everything. Tea and coffee provided

What could be improved: Two flights of steep stairs. Could be a problem if you were not fit.

  • Exceptional – Claire from United Kingdom – 11 September 2023 (10/10)

Eric was very attentive, he replied instantly to anything we needed and arrived to the apartment with an iron on our first day! The air con was the best air con I’ve ever experienced!! We will be back!!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Super comfy studio – Paulo from Portugal – 12 July 2023 (10/10)

The studio is perfect for a couple, it has everything you may need. Super clean, nice deco and comfortable.

    Beautiful terrace!

20min walk from the city center, which you can make easily.

    AC works great.

Cheers to the owner and Nadege, they were super thoughtful and friendly.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • excellent – Ross from United Kingdom – 20 September 2022 (9/10)

great location to visit the centre of Bordeaux . very clean and comfortable . the lady who greeted was friendly and really helpful

  • Fantastic property. – Chris from United Kingdom – 28 July 2022 (10/10)

    Exceptional property.

  • I would stay here everytime I come to Bordeaux. Everything needed is nearby and such a great local – Chris from United Kingdom – 28 July 2022 (10/10)

    Meals were not included.

What could be improved: Loved the newness and setup of apartment.Very well thought out. Although the bed was very comfortable, the sheets could have been a little better quality, cotton maybe. Something that breathed.

  • Very good – Omar from United States – 2 October 2024 (8/10)

Amazing host, he went above and beyond to ensure we got to the apartment properly. Getting in was easy. The apartment is quaint and comfortable enough for two people; it's a small duplex where the bed is upstairs and just enough space for the bed.

What could be improved: I really liked everything but the bed was not comfortable. We stayed two nights and slept very little, which was unfortunate because the host was amazing.
