First Impressions

Walking up to Hôtel Descazeaux on Rue du Puits Descazeaux, you’ll notice it’s tucked into one of those narrow Bordeaux streets that feels authentically French — no tourist traps in sight, just locals heading to the nearby cafés. The three-star property doesn’t try to be flashy, which I actually appreciate. It’s got that understated French charm where the building itself tells you you’re somewhere with real history. The entrance is modest but welcoming, and honestly, the location alone makes up for any lack of grand lobby theatrics.

Location & Neighborhood

This is where Hôtel Descazeaux really shines — I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Bordeaux’s old town. You can walk to Place de la Bourse in about five minutes, and the Garonne riverfront is right there when you want that classic Bordeaux riverside stroll. What I love is that you’re close enough to everything but still on a quieter street, so you’re not dealing with constant foot traffic outside your window. The tram stops are nearby (Sainte-Catherine is your closest), which makes getting around the city incredibly easy. You know what’s great? You can actually walk to most of the wine bars and restaurants you’ll want to try — no need for taxis or figuring out public transport late at night.

The Rooms

The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star in this part of France — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without being over the top. Mine had that classic French hotel feel with modern touches where they matter most (the bathroom was updated, thank goodness). The beds are genuinely comfortable, and the windows — well, depending on which room you get, you might have views of the surrounding historic buildings or the inner courtyard. It’s not huge space-wise, but honestly, when you’re in a location this good, you’re barely in your room anyway except to sleep.

Getting Around & Practical Matters

The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They’ll point you toward the better wine bars (skip the touristy ones near the cathedral) and can help with dinner reservations. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, but that’s sort of perfect because you’re surrounded by authentic Bordeaux eateries. There’s a lovely little café literally around the corner where locals grab their morning coffee — I ended up going there every day instead of looking for hotel breakfast options. The Wi-Fi works well throughout the building, and the air conditioning keeps things comfortable during those warm Bordeaux summers.

Why Guests Love It

Couples especially seem to fall for this place — and I get it. There’s something romantic about staying in the genuine heart of Bordeaux rather than in some modern hotel district. You’re walking on cobblestones to dinner, you’re discovering hidden wine bars just by wandering around, and you feel like you’re actually experiencing the city rather than just visiting it. The combination of authentic location, solid comfort, and reasonable pricing makes Hôtel Descazeaux one of those finds that you end up recommending to friends. It’s not trying to be anything other than a really good base for exploring Bordeaux — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  Location was great for sight seeing the city! However, the apartment is in the pedestrian zone; cars are limited. Our Uber driver brought us door to door when arriving. On departure we had to leave at 6 in the morning for the airport and at that time taxis or Ubers can not enter the area. It was a scramble to get to our ride with our luggage. Be aware of this and plan ahead, otherwise the location is great.

  Beautifully restored 18th century apartment. Absolutely stunning with those high ceilings and fabulous window's. Really enjoyed our stay. Central to all sights, bars and restaurants. I would 100% stay here again The host was very good at communication 👌
