Hotel Description
So I stumbled across Descazeaux during one of those last-minute booking frenzies, and honestly? Best accidental find in Bordeaux. The thing is, Rue du Puits Descazeaux is this narrow little street that most tourists walk right past on their way to the bigger attractions – which is exactly why you want to stay here.
The hotel itself sits in what feels like the real Bordeaux, you know? Not the postcard version, but the one where locals actually grab their morning coffee and argue about football. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Place de la Bourse (that’s the one with the mirror fountain everyone photographs), but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear drunk British tourists at 2 AM. The building has that weathered limestone look that screams “I’ve been here since before your great-grandmother was born,” and the entrance is so understated I actually walked past it twice on my first day. There’s this little courtyard inside that catches the afternoon sun perfectly – I ended up reading there most evenings with a bottle of something local.
What really got me was how the staff actually seemed to live in Bordeaux, not just work there. The guy at reception (Pierre, I think?) gave me directions to this tiny wine bar three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I mentioned wanting to avoid the tourist traps, he literally drew me a hand-sketched map of where locals eat dinner. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathroom with good water pressure, though the WiFi gets a bit sketchy on the upper floors during busy periods. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try to be more than it is.
The neighborhood is where this place really shines though. You’ve got the Marché des Capucins about ten minutes south if you want to see how Bordeaux actually feeds itself – proper market stalls, elderly French women arguing over tomatoes, the whole scene. And walking north toward the cathedral, you pass these little shops that sell everything from vintage postcards to wine accessories that locals actually use, not just tourist junk. Parking is typical city-center nightmare stuff, but there’s a public garage two streets over that’s not too brutal price-wise. The 8.6 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it nails everything a smart traveler actually cares about: location, value, and that intangible feeling that you’re staying somewhere genuine. Plus, if you’re here for the wine (and let’s be honest, why else would you come to Bordeaux?), you’re perfectly positioned to stumble home from pretty much anywhere in the historic center without needing a taxi or figuring out the tram system after a long evening of “research.”

Location was great for sight seeing the city! However, the apartment is in the pedestrian zone; cars are limited. Our Uber driver brought us door to door when arriving. On departure we had to leave at 6 in the morning for the airport and at that time taxis or Ubers can not enter the area. It was a scramble to get to our ride with our luggage. Be aware of this and plan ahead, otherwise the location is great.
