So here’s the thing about Chez Guillaume – it’s one of those places that just gets Bordeaux right, you know? I mean, when you’re walking down rue du Maréchal Joffre (which honestly sounds way fancier than it actually is), you might almost miss the entrance because it doesn’t scream “hotel” at you. But that’s sort of the point. This little 3-star spot sits right in the thick of things without trying too hard, and after staying there a couple times, I actually prefer it that way.

The location is pretty genius, actually. You’re literally a five-minute walk to Place Gambetta – which, if you haven’t been, is where all the good café people-watching happens – and the tram stops right there too, so getting to the wine district along the Garonne is dead simple. What I really love though is that you can stumble back from dinner on Cours de l’Intendance without dealing with tourist crowds because this little pocket of the city center stays surprisingly quiet after 9 PM. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone thing going on, all weathered and honey-colored, and honestly the rooms are bigger than you’d expect for a place that doesn’t cost a fortune.

Now look, it’s not going to blow your mind – we’re talking about a 7.7 rating here, not some design hotel fantasy. The WiFi works fine, the shower pressure is actually decent (which matters more than people admit), and the beds are comfortable enough that I’ve never woken up cranky. What really won me over though was the morning routine. There’s this tiny café literally next door where the owner, Marie, makes the best pain au chocolat in probably a six-block radius, and she always remembers if you like your coffee strong. The hotel folks will point you there instead of pushing their own breakfast, which tells you something about how they think about hospitality. Plus, if you’re the type who needs to check emails before coffee (I see you, fellow Americans), the lobby has these perfectly worn leather chairs that catch the morning light just right. One small thing – if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe ask for a room facing the courtyard since the street can get a bit lively on weekends, but honestly, it’s more charming than annoying. This is Bordeaux, after all, and the sound of people actually enjoying themselves beats dead silence any day.

  Locatie is geweldig en zeer goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding, ruime kamer met twee losse bedden waar ook nog kleine tafel in staat om aan te eten. 2 min lopen en je was bij de kathedraal st. André!
  
  What could be improved: De waterdruk in de wc is wat laag waardoor doorspoelen niet zo goed gaat en de douche is klein maar de prijs is daarentegen echt ok voor de locatie
