Hotel Description

Honestly, I walked past the Cheverus on rue de Cheverus about three times before I realized I’d found my hotel – it’s tucked into this narrow street in a way that feels very Bordeaux, you know? Not flashy or announcing itself, just quietly elegant behind that classic Haussmann facade. The thing is, once you’re inside, you get why it earned those four stars. The lobby has this understated sophistication that actually feels French rather than trying too hard to be French, if that makes sense.

What really got me was the location – I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the city center, but rue de Cheverus itself is surprisingly peaceful. You can walk to Place Gambetta in about two minutes (perfect for that morning coffee ritual), and the tram stops at Hôtel de Ville are close enough that you don’t need to think twice about exploring. The staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood too – not just the obvious tourist spots, but they pointed me toward this little wine bar on rue du Pas-Saint-Georges that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “properly comfortable” – good beds, decent space without feeling cramped, and bathrooms that actually have enough counter space for your stuff (honestly, why is that so rare?). The whole place has been updated without losing its character, which is trickier than hotels usually manage.

Here’s what I appreciated most though – the Cheverus doesn’t feel like it’s performing being a boutique hotel. The service is professional but relaxed, check-in was smooth even when I arrived earlier than expected, and there’s this general sense that they know what they’re doing without making a big show of it. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in Bordeaux, but that 8.2 rating makes sense when you’re actually staying there. The neighborhood gets lively in the evenings (you’re walking distance from some excellent restaurants), but the hotel itself stays quiet – good windows, I guess. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually recommend rather than just tourists, this hits that sweet spot. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the whole place just smells good – not like aggressive air freshener, just clean and welcoming in that way that makes you want to come back.

  • Very good – Grainne from Ireland – 25 August 2024 (8/10)

Very clean, spacious. Decor was very good, host was very friendly, very quiet even though apartment is in a very central location..

What could be improved: Air con would be super but the fans did work well, 2 keys would be nice, front door of apartment block needs stronger looking locks.

  • Very good – Francis from United Kingdom – 14 August 2024 (8/10)

Nice cosy flat, the decorations inside the flat is the nice, very spacious.Good central location easy to find. The kitchen has all the necessary appliances and easy to use.
The sofa was very comfortable as well as the two chairs,we enjoyed having breakfast and dinner on the long wooden table.
    Safe and quiet neighbourhoods.

What could be improved: Two sets of keys would have been better, specially for the kind of door.
    Air conditioning for hot weather.

  • Lovely apartment right in the centre of Bordeaux – Ann from Ireland – 14 June 2024 (9/10)

Lovely apartment in the centre of Bordeaux, close to everything. Comfy beds, quiet, nicely furnished. The apartment had everything we needed. Excellent communication with the host, access via lockbox.

What could be improved: Bathroom is quite small.

  • Thumbs up – Audrey from Singapore – 7 June 2024 (8/10)

Top marks for location. Easy to walk to shops and restaurants, tram stops.

What could be improved: We were a little concerned about recent break ins as advised by the staff. But I think they took the necessary precautions of double bolts downstairs and 4 bolts to the room door. Shower area may be a challenge if you're not petite.

  • Really lovely apartment for a couple, great location, good communication from hosts and easy to find – Andee from United States – 11 October 2023 (8/10)

Location is the best part of this property. Also the size of the apartment. It is roomy, airy and very comfortable. The kitchen, washer , clean beds and the hosts' communication were also very good. The bathroom is typical European style small but it has everything that one needs. The shower does not have much room but again, it works height wise for a 6 foot person.

What could be improved: more coffee pods, (only two were provided), and not much else to dislike. Just a note, in hot summer months, the apartment will feel hot for the US tourists. We had two small fans which were just enough to keep the room airy at night in October.

  • Superb – Kate from France – 16 February 2023 (9/10)

Perfect location. Great living area and lots of utensils in the kitchen.

What could be improved: Would be great if coffee pods for the Nespresso machine were included. Very petite shower but it wasn’t too bad!

  • Facilry was great and location was great. Difficult to hire taxis. – Marlo from Canada – 2 August 2022 (8/10)

Location was very convenient. Central to sites, yet quiet.

What could be improved: Surprised with difficulty in obtaining taxis.

  • lovely apartment in a great location – Linda from Ireland – 18 December 2024 (8/10)

Quirky apartment in a great location.

What could be improved: Can't think of anything..
