Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to 13 Rue Pilet – it’s this narrow street that most tourists completely miss, tucked between the busier shopping areas near Place Gambetta. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes the Charmant Studio Loft work so well. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone facade that probably hasn’t changed much in the last century, and while the entrance is pretty modest (you might actually walk past it), once you’re inside, the studio loft concept really delivers.
The space feels authentically Bordeaux without trying too hard – exposed beams, decent natural light from windows that actually open properly, and they’ve managed to squeeze in a proper kitchenette without making everything feel cramped. I mean, it’s still a studio, so don’t expect to spread out like you’re in some château, but for a 3-star place, they’ve thought through the layout pretty well. The bed’s comfortable enough, though the pillows are a bit soft if you’re used to firmer support. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – Rue Pilet doesn’t get the late-night foot traffic that some of the streets closer to Saint-Pierre do, so you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open in warmer months.
Location-wise, this is where it gets interesting. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Marché des Capucins, which honestly beats staying near the more touristy areas if you want to grab actual good coffee and pastries in the morning. The tram’s close enough (Musée d’Aquitaine stop) that getting to the wine regions or even out to the coast isn’t a hassle, but you’re not dealing with the constant rumble that comes with being right on the main lines. Parking can be tricky – like most of central Bordeaux – but there’s usually street parking if you’re patient, or the Place Gambetta garage is walkable if you don’t mind paying a bit more. The 7 rating feels about right; it’s solid and well-maintained, though the shower pressure could be better and the WiFi gets a bit spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming. But for the price point and the neighborhood, it’s one of those places that just works – especially if you’re the type who’d rather explore actual Bordeaux instead of staying in some generic hotel district.
Visitors often choose Bordeaux’s apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent wine capital.

great location and apartment design
What could be improved: bed under the roof, hitting the head on the ceiling, guaranteedBad – Natalie from France – 2 August 2024 (1/10)
Location ok.
What could be improved: The owner listed the apartment as having air conditioning, but it did not. There was a heatwave while we were in Bordeaux, so we specifically wanted to book somewhere with air conditioning.
When we arrived, the apartment smelled horribly damp. What we thought was a portable air conditioning machine was actually a dehumidifier. Its settings indicated the air humidity in the apartment was 81%!!! We turned it on, and although the humidity dropped to 78%, the temperature in the apartment rose to 30 degrees. With a heatwave outside reaching 38 degrees, opening the window wasn't an option.
The owner insisted that the dehumidifier was an air conditioning device. We googled the model number, and even the manual said that it doesn't cool air but instead heats the air while dehumidifying.
We complained to both Booking.com and the owner. He offered a refund, but what we actually wanted was for him to pay the difference in cost for alternative accommodation. He refused. If he hadn't lied in his listing, we would have booked somewhere else within our budget that had air conditioning. Trying to book same-day accommodation elsewhere in Bordeaux during peak season meant we ended up paying for something really expensive. Instead of enjoying our first evening, we had to research where to stay and then relocate.
The owner is dishonest and lacks integrity. They still state in their listing that they have air conditioning. Don't be fooled by this—they don't! I've included the picture of the dehumidifier so you can see for yourself.
Avoid this place, it's stuffy and damp.Moyen – Patricia from France – 1 July 2025 (7/10)
