Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Campanile Bordeaux Le Lac on Rue du Petit Barail, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in this business hotel cluster that feels sort of removed from the main action, but you know what? That actually ended up being one of its best features. The whole area is surprisingly quiet, especially at night, which is gold if you’re trying to recover from exploring Bordeaux’s wine scene all day.

The thing about this place is it knows exactly what it is – a solid 3-star that doesn’t try to pretend otherwise. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no fake smiles or over-the-top welcome speeches), and the lobby has this clean, no-nonsense vibe that I actually found kind of comforting. The rooms are honestly bigger than I expected for a Campanile, with decent beds and those thick curtains that actually block out light – something you don’t always get even at pricier places. The bathroom situation is fine, nothing fancy but hot water pressure was consistently good, which matters more than marble countertops anyway. One small thing that caught me off guard in a good way: the soundproofing is actually pretty decent between rooms, probably because it’s not some converted old building like a lot of Bordeaux hotels.

Here’s what really works about the location though – you’re maybe a 15-minute tram ride from the city center, but honestly the connections are easy and frequent. Plus there’s proper parking right there, which if you’ve tried to park anywhere near Place de la Bourse, you’ll appreciate. The surrounding area has a few decent restaurants within walking distance (there’s this little bistro about 200 meters away that locals seem to frequent), and there’s a Carrefour nearby for grabbing snacks or wine without paying hotel markup prices. I mean, you’re not exactly in the heart of historic Bordeaux, but sometimes after a long day of sightseeing, being somewhere you can just… breathe is exactly what you need. The staff seemed genuinely helpful without being pushy – they gave me solid recommendations for wine tastings in the area and didn’t try to oversell anything. The breakfast is typical Campanile fare, nothing revolutionary but coffee’s decent and there’s enough variety to get you going. One thing worth mentioning: if you’re here during summer, the AC works well, which isn’t always a given in this price range in France. At 7.9 rating, it’s hitting that sweet spot where you get reliable comfort without breaking the bank, and honestly, that’s sometimes exactly what a trip needs.

  The water heater and the tee and coffe options are really fantastic.
  The big parking space is also very good.
  
  What could be improved: It would be perfect to have two chairs in the room (as we were two people but one chair).
  And also, it is a pity not to improove the acustic isolation by the way the renovations are done.

  The rooms are small but the air conditioning is good and the bed is comfortable. The shower over the bath works fine. The receptionist Naomi was very friendly and helpful and we got into our room a little earlier than usual. The location is close to a tram stop for visits to the city. There is a restaurant in the Campanile and a good choice nearby. The lake is there for an evening stroll after your dinner.
  
  What could be improved: They are renovating the hotel which we knew about when we booked so a few details are unfinished but they didn't affect our stay

  The hotel was undergoing renovations when we arrived but every effort was made to not let the work be intrusive. The hotel was located not far from the motorway which was an advantage for us. The staff were welcoming and booking in was completed efficiently. We were information on how to connect to the Internet and how to connect to our Netflix account via the TV in the room. The beds were comfortable and we were lucky to have rooms to the rear which were cooler. Parking was no problem. There is a restaurant on site as well as a small bar.
  
  What could be improved: The room and bathroom felt cramped but was equipped with all we needed. The menu choices in the restaurant was limited but the food was good quality.

  Quiet, clean and easy to reach from the highway. Good food restaurants around. Good connection with the city center and other locations.

  Fast check in, Staff spoke excellent English. Room was Excellent and comfortable. Great location for me for my shows in nearby venue. Real tight security at night time.
