Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to 29 Rue du Chai des Farines, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? This little spot actually surprised me. The building itself has that weathered Bordeaux charm you see all over the historic center, and having a balcon (yeah, they put it right in the name for a reason) overlooking one of these narrow cobblestone streets… well, it’s pretty much what you came to France for, isn’t it?
The location is where this place really shines, though they don’t make a huge deal about it. You’re literally in the heart of everything – I mean, you can stumble back from the wine bars on Rue Saint-Rémi in about three minutes, and the Saturday morning market at Marché des Capucins is close enough that you’ll actually hear the vendors setting up if you’re an early riser. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets once you’re inside, despite being right in the thick of things. The old stone walls do their job, I guess. Parking’s going to be your usual historic center nightmare, but honestly, once you’re here you won’t need a car anyway.
The rooms themselves are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star in an old building. Nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s clean. That 7.9 rating feels about right – not perfect, but definitely no major complaints. The balcony situation varies depending on which room you get, so maybe mention it when you book if that’s important to you. I actually loved the morning routine of grabbing coffee from that little place around the corner (I think it was Café de la Presse?) and sitting out there watching Bordeaux wake up. The staff seemed to know their stuff about the neighborhood too – they steered me toward this incredible wine shop on Cours de l’Intendance that I never would’ve found otherwise. It’s not luxury, but it’s authentic Bordeaux living for a few days, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Location location location! – Martin from Canada – 31 May 2024 (9/10)
Location location location! This was the perfect place in the perfect setting for a wonderful Bordeaux experience. We stayed 3 days at this fantastic historic apartment, which was beautifully renovated. Having breakfast and just sitting on the patio with a bottle of wine was our favorite part. We drove here in a rental car, so we ended up using the optional parking garage, which is situated on the ground level of our apartment, keeping it close and secure, even though we never needed yo access it through our stay in Bordeaux, since everything was walking distance away.
What could be improved: If I had to pick something, I would recommend that the curtains or window shades be fixed on the main living room/kitchen area to add some privacy at night. With the lights on at night, we felt a little exposed to the neighbors at the same level, which could easily see inside. Being able to close the curtains would have been nice.Very good – Erika from Ireland – 18 March 2024 (8/10)
Really comfortable beds, great location, quiet yet very central. Would highly recommend this apartment!
Fantastic. – Jane from Australia – 2 August 2023 (9/10)
The location was fantastic as was the apartment, meeting all expectations.
The host was very generous with her time and information on arrival adding to the experience.
What could be improved: Maybe a few more knives and forks.Lovely stay in the heart of Bordeaux – Alastair from United Kingdom – 30 August 2024 (9/10)
Light airy and spacious apartment superbly located overlooking a square with great views and a convivial atmosphere. The view over the old city gate was also magnificent. Extremely walkable to surrounding restaurants, most of which offered al fresco dining, which was great in August!
What could be improved: A little tired in places though kind of added to the rustic charm. If I had to pick something, perhaps the shower could be slightly more powerful and the fridge updated. The apartment is beautiful on the most charming square in Bordeaux 💕 – Sandra from United Kingdom – 4 August 2024 (7/10)
The location is perfect. The apartment is big with a wrap around balcony which was lovely. The lounge is bright and beautiful floor to ceiling windows. It’s a classic French apartment and I’d recommend it.
What could be improved: I’d still recommend a stay because it’s beautiful but it’s a bit tired. I think it was quite expensive so expected higher spec. The kitchen was not well equipped ( no sharp knives, very few serving dishes and we love shopping at the markets and cooking) and the bathroom and toilet need a makeover. The shower over the bath is quite weak. I’d still recommend a stay but for the cost I think there is a need to invest a little in the decor and equipment. It is potentially the best apartment in Bordeaux and even if there were no changes made I’d stay again.Very good – Eyjólfur from Iceland – 22 August 2023 (8/10)
Good location

What could be improved: Hallway lighting near exit did not come on early enough and could be dangerous with the stairs.
