Hotel Description

So I stayed at this duplex on Rue de la Rousselle last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. The street itself is pretty narrow – classic old Bordeaux style – and you’re literally in the thick of the historic center. I mean, you can walk to Place de la Bourse in maybe eight minutes, and the Saturday market at Marché des Capucins is just across the Garonne if you feel like wandering.

The space itself is actually bigger than I expected for a city center spot. It’s got this duplex thing going on, which means the bedrooms are upstairs and you get a proper living area downstairs – honestly pretty nice when you’ve got five people trying not to step on each other. The décor is… well, it’s not going to win any design awards, but it’s comfortable enough. Think IKEA meets French grandmother’s house. What I really appreciated was the kitchen setup – you can actually cook a real meal here, not just heat up croissants. The neighborhood gets pretty lively in the evenings (you’re basically surrounded by wine bars), but by midnight things settle down. The windows do an okay job with street noise, though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs.

Here’s the thing about this location – you’re going to walk everywhere, and that’s actually perfect. The tram stops are close enough when you need them, but honestly, most of what you want to see is within a fifteen-minute stroll. There’s this little café called Café de l’Opéra just around the corner that does incredible pain au chocolat (the owner’s been there forever), and if you head toward Cours de l’Intendance, you hit all the shopping without dealing with tourist central chaos. Parking is… well, it’s Bordeaux city center, so good luck with that. There’s a public garage about ten minutes away, but I’d honestly just take the tram in from outside the city if you’re driving. The host was pretty responsive when we had questions, and check-in was straightforward – they actually met us at the apartment, which was nice since finding the exact building can be a bit tricky the first time. Overall, it’s solid for what you pay, especially if you want that authentic “living in Bordeaux” feeling rather than the sterile hotel experience. Just don’t expect luxury – think comfortable base camp in an absolutely prime location.
