Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Bordeaux Cosy B&B? The name actually fits – which honestly doesn’t always happen with these places. I mean, it really is cozy in that French way where everything feels purposeful but not cramped. The building sits on rue Bertrand de Goth in the Nansouty Saint-Genes area, and if you’re not familiar with Bordeaux, this is one of those residential neighborhoods that locals love because it’s got character without the tourist chaos of downtown.

The street itself is pretty quiet – I stayed there during what the owner mentioned was their busy season in late spring, and even then you’re not dealing with traffic noise or people stumbling home from wine bars at 2 AM (though let’s be honest, that’s part of Bordeaux’s charm elsewhere). What I really appreciated was how the hosts – and you actually interact with real people here, not some faceless check-in system – knew their stuff about getting around the city. They pointed me toward the tram line that’s about a seven-minute walk away, which gets you into the heart of things without the hassle of driving through those narrow old streets downtown. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, something I definitely wasn’t expecting in a city this size.

The rooms have this lived-in elegance that feels authentically French rather than trying too hard to be boutique-y. I’m talking about those little details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere – good water pressure (thank god), windows that open properly for fresh air, and bedding that’s clearly been chosen by someone who cares about sleep quality. The breakfast situation was solid too, with local stuff mixed in rather than just generic continental fare. What really sold me on the place was this sort of effortless hospitality – like when I mentioned I was planning to visit some of the wine regions outside the city, they had specific recommendations for smaller producers I never would have found on my own. That’s the kind of local knowledge you just can’t get from big chain hotels or those sterile apartment rentals.

Honestly, the 9.1 rating makes sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bordeaux, but it nails what a good B&B should do – makes you feel like you’ve got a comfortable base to explore from, with people who actually want to help you have a good time in their city. The Nansouty area has some great little cafés and shops within walking distance, and you’re still close enough to catch a tram or even bike into the UNESCO areas when you want that classic Bordeaux experience. I’d definitely stay there again, especially if I was planning to explore beyond just the main tourist spots – which, if you’re spending more than a day or two in Bordeaux, you absolutely should.

Fully equipped. Lovely host, Stephan. Outstanding breakfast. Close to the old town. Covered parking.

What could be improved: The pillows were a little flat.

  • Superb – Peter from Australia – 12 July 2025 (9/10)

Very helpful host, comfortable good sized room with balcony overlooking pool area. Quiet as not on street side of building. Pool nice to relax by in afternoon. Very good breakfast. Location near tram line provided easy access to city and supermarket nearby. Undercover secure carpark nearby. Shared fridge and microwave allowed some on-site food/drinks facility.

What could be improved: A little complex finding and getting into carpark which is a few doors before accommodation in small street with few street numbers obvious. Initial access into accommodation, prior to gaining door codes. Rooms upstairs up tight set of stairs and through access doors.
