Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a Best Western in Bordeaux – I mean, you think chain hotel, you think bland corridors and continental breakfast, right? But this Premier HBEO location on Rue Martignac actually surprised me. The building itself has this really nice Bordeaux stone facade that fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s elegant 18th-century architecture. You know what struck me first? The lobby smells like quality leather and subtle lavender instead of that generic hotel air freshener most places pump out.
The location is what really makes this place work though. Rue Martignac is one of those quieter streets that runs parallel to the main shopping areas, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from Cours de l’Intendance (where all the fancy boutiques are) but you don’t get the street noise at night. I stayed in a room facing the courtyard – smart move, because even though the street-facing rooms aren’t terrible, there’s still some early morning delivery truck action. The rooms themselves feel more boutique than chain hotel, honestly. They’ve got these rich burgundy accents and actual artwork on the walls, not the usual corporate prints. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious too, with one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent water pressure.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know Bordeaux beyond just the obvious tourist spots. The guy at reception (I think his name was Laurent?) steered me toward this little wine bar on Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges that I never would’ve found otherwise. And when I mentioned I was walking to the Musée d’Aquitaine, he suggested cutting through Place Gambetta instead of taking the main route – saved me probably ten minutes and I got to see that gorgeous square. The breakfast was… well, it’s still a hotel breakfast, but they do source some local pastries and the coffee was actually good. I mean, you’re in France, so you can grab better coffee at any café within a block, but for hotel coffee it didn’t make me wince. Parking was the one minor headache – there’s no hotel garage, so you’re looking at street parking (good luck with that) or the public garage on Cours Georges Clemenceau, which runs about 20 euros a day. Not the end of the world, but worth knowing if you’re driving in. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but everything works well, the location is genuinely useful for exploring the city center, and they’ve put effort into making it feel less corporate than you’d expect.

The staff and the location are exemplary. They encouraged me to use local transport and even purchased the tickets for me. They did everything but walk me to the tram itself. In addition, they were very patient with my French, allowing me time to get out my sentences before smiling and gently correcting me. They never dismissed my attempts and for that I am grateful.

The location was perfect. If the weather had cooperated we would have enjoyed the shopping areas nearby. The antique market and other sites were close.

Excellent and ideal location and next to the Hotel Intercontinental and the Notre Dame hotel. A 7 minute walk to the river. In the heart of the center and locations where walking tour groups start tours.

I really appreciated the excellent location of the Hotel in the center of Bordeaux, the kindness of the staff, the cleanliness of the room and the softness of the bed sheets. Breakfast was ok, but not outstanding.
