Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about this place? The terrace. I mean, when you’re staying in Chartrons – which is honestly one of Bordeaux’s most underrated neighborhoods – having your own outdoor space feels like hitting the jackpot. The apartment sits right on Rue de la Course, and while that might sound busy, it’s actually perfectly positioned. You’re close enough to everything that matters but tucked away from the tourist chaos near Place de la Bourse.

The Chartrons district has this interesting personality – it used to be all about wine merchants and warehouses, but now it’s got this cool mix of antique shops, wine bars, and locals who’ve been here forever. Walking to the Saturday morning market at Marché des Chartrons takes maybe five minutes, and honestly, that’s where you’ll find the best produce and cheese vendors in the city. The apartment itself feels authentically Bordeaux – you know, those classic French proportions with high ceilings and windows that actually open wide (something Americans always forget to appreciate until they’re stuck with tiny hotel windows). The terrace overlooks typical Bordeaux rooftops, which might not sound glamorous, but there’s something really peaceful about having morning coffee while watching the city wake up.

What I really appreciated was how the owners clearly understand what travelers actually need. The kitchen has proper cookware – not those flimsy tourist rental pans – which matters if you’re planning to cook with all that amazing stuff from the market. Plus, the location means you can walk to Cave à Vin for natural wines, or if you’re feeling fancy, head down toward the river where some excellent bistros have opened recently. The 7.9 rating feels about right, actually – it’s not luxury, but it’s comfortable and genuine in a way that a lot of those sterile hotel chains just can’t match. Parking can be tricky in Chartrons (like everywhere in Bordeaux), but there are usually spots if you’re willing to walk a few blocks. The tram line is super close too, so getting to the city center or even out to the wine regions is straightforward. I’d definitely recommend this place, especially if you want to experience Bordeaux like someone who actually lives here rather than just checking off tourist boxes.
