Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of B&Bs in France, and honestly? B&B L’Escapade Bordelaise gets it right in ways that surprised me. When you first walk up to 29 rue du Temple, you might wonder if you’ve got the right address – it’s tucked into this narrow street in the city center that most tourists rush past on their way to the bigger attractions. But that’s actually perfect, because you’re literally a three-minute walk from Place de la Bourse (you know, that Instagram-famous water mirror thing), yet the street itself stays pretty quiet, especially in the evenings.
The building has that worn Bordeaux limestone look that screams authenticity – none of that over-renovated tourist trap vibe you get around Cours de l’Intendance. When I checked in, the owner knew exactly which wine bars to hit up on rue des Piliers de Tutelle (honestly, locals still go there, which tells you something). The rooms themselves are… well, they’re 3-star rooms, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or anything, but they’ve got character. My room had these old wooden shutters that actually worked, and the bed was way more comfortable than it looked. You can hear the occasional scooter buzzing by in the morning, but it’s not the kind of noise that’ll wake you up at dawn – more like gentle city background sounds that remind you you’re in the heart of Bordeaux.
What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation. They set up this little spread with actual local pastries (not the frozen stuff you get at chain hotels), and the coffee was strong enough to fuel a proper day of wine tasting. The owner – I mean, you’re dealing directly with the people who run this place, not some corporate front desk – gave me directions to this tiny fromagerie on rue Sainte-Catherine that I never would’ve found otherwise. Parking’s a bit of a puzzle if you’ve got a car (welcome to European city centers), but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that won’t completely destroy your budget. Honestly, the 8.6 rating makes sense once you realize this isn’t trying to be some luxury experience – it’s just a really solid, authentic place to stay where you feel like you’re actually in Bordeaux, not in some international hotel bubble. If you’re the type who wants to walk to dinner, stumble back from the wine bars, and wake up somewhere that feels genuinely local, this works.
Early hotels booking in Bordeaux is essential during major events like the Wine Festival, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned vineyards and gastronomy.

A room in an old style apartment, located on the 1st floor, just a few steps aways from the shopping streets, the opera, the river – perfect and still quiet location. Communication with owner as well as staff on site was very good. We slept very well! 😉

A great place to use as a base in Bordeaux centre-ville. Close to bars and restaurants and shopping. We were well looked after by the owners who prepared the room for us as it was a heatwave. We stayed cool. Thank you.
A nice place to stay with a great host. – Ramsey from Australia – 5 June 2025 (9/10)
Julien is a superb host. He is extremely helpful and engaging, with the needs of his guests at heart. The central location meant we were near transport options and many of the sights and areas we wished to visit. The bed was large and comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. Julien services the room every day. Breakfast consisted of delicious plain croissants, two types of bread, jams, three types of muesli, yoghurt, juice, and tea and coffee. You can use the kitchen facilities day and night yourself, too. The place has a charm about it, and is very quiet at night.
What could be improved: We had the Grand Hommes room, which is the only room situated downstairs via a spiral staircase. It was a little musty and dark. Opening the large windows is an option to deal with that, but that allows mosquitoes in. As there are buildings directly opposite, the open windows means your privacy is compromised, or, if you close the black curtains, it’s dark. Julien has a device that discourages mosquitoes from entering but we still had a few! Note that all the upstairs rooms we saw were light and bright, though.Very good – Inna from United States – 30 May 2025 (8/10)
