Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about B&B Le Miroir aux Fées? The name – it means “Mirror of the Fairies” in English, which honestly sounds way more whimsical than this charming little place actually feels. It’s tucked away on Rue du Mulet, one of those narrow cobblestone streets in Bordeaux’s old center where you’ll actually hear your footsteps echo at night. The building itself has that weathered limestone look that screams “I’ve been here since before your great-grandmother was born,” but in the best possible way.
I mean, this isn’t some flashy boutique hotel trying too hard to impress – it’s more like staying at your cultured French aunt’s place, if she happened to have impeccable taste and knew how to make travelers feel at home. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” – you get the essentials done really well rather than a bunch of stuff you don’t need. The beds are actually comfortable (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in historic buildings), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be cursing the plumbing. What really gets me though is how quiet it stays despite being right in the thick of things. Sure, you might catch some street chatter if you keep your windows open on weekend nights, but it’s not the kind of noise that’ll keep you up.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore Bordeaux on foot – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Place de la Bourse with those famous reflecting pools, and about the same distance to some seriously good wine bars along Cours de l’Intendance. The hosts seem to actually know their stuff about the neighborhood too, not just the usual tourist trap recommendations. They pointed me toward this tiny bistro around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area (welcome to historic European city centers), but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that won’t break the bank. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no long speeches about amenities you can figure out yourself, just genuine helpfulness when you need it. For a three-star place, they’ve really nailed that sweet spot between comfort and character, which probably explains that 8.8 rating. It’s the kind of spot where you actually feel like you’re staying in Bordeaux, not just sleeping somewhere convenient to it.

Reviews
Superb – Esposito from Italy – 18 July 2025 (9/10)
Location is strategic
The house is a registered city' historical site
The owner overexceeded my expectations, she is born to welcome people at her home
What could be improved: In order to use the kitchen, just for preparing a salad, it is advisable to better equip it with, at least, oil, salt, vinaigrette.
Then, given the effects of climate change, I'd install the nets anti-mosquitoes/flies and something against the pigeons (which became a real problem, in particular, in every tourist cityClassic hangout to explore a lovely city! – Charles from United States – 11 June 2025 (9/10)
The location was perfect for exploring the city by foot. The owner was extremely kind smd helpful.
What could be improved: The property is quite old and the stairs to my 3rd floor room were very steep and narrow. There is no elevator.Exceptional – Carmel from Ireland – 5 June 2025 (10/10)

Very good located, in the heart of the city. Frédérique is the best host ever, breakfast delicious, my room had everything needed, bed very very comfortable, clean and very quiet, even if you are in the heart of the city.
The house is beautiful and very interesting. I stayed for four nights. I highly recommend it!
What could be improved: No elevator, which is logic because it is a 16th century house (or older).Location, location, location! Lovely host and good value for money. Thank you! – Corbin from United Kingdom – 8 February 2025 (9/10)

Superb – Rebecca from Germany – 4 November 2024 (9/10)
The location is perfect, right in the middle of town. The women running the B&B is very nice and accommodating. She let me leave my luggage downstairs after checking out which was incredibly helpful.
What could be improved: More of an FYI, in typical European fashion the stairs are narrow and there is no elevator. The price you pay for a great location and a neat building
