B&B L’Escapade Bordelaise – Côté Jardin Overview

So I stumbled across L’Escapade Bordelaise completely by accident – well, sort of by accident. I was wandering around the Gare Saint-Jean area after my train got in, and honestly, I almost walked right past it. The thing is, Cours de Verdun isn’t exactly the prettiest street in Bordeaux (let’s be real, it’s got that slightly gritty urban vibe), but once you step through their entrance, it’s like entering a completely different world. The “Côté Jardin” part of the name actually means something here – there’s this gorgeous little courtyard garden that you can’t see from the street, tucked away behind the building where you can have your morning coffee and pretend you’re not in the middle of a busy city.

What really got me was how the owners – I think they’re a local couple – have managed to blend that classic Bordeaux elegance with genuine comfort. You know what I mean? So many B&Bs either go full tourist-trap cute or they’re basically just fancy hotels pretending to be intimate. This place actually feels like staying at someone’s beautifully appointed home, if that someone happens to have impeccable taste and knows exactly how to make travelers comfortable. The rooms have these lovely high ceilings (typical for the area) and the beds are honestly some of the most comfortable I’ve slept in – I’m talking proper linens, not the scratchy stuff you sometimes get at smaller places. They’ve got this attention to detail thing down pat; little touches like really good lighting for reading and enough outlets for all your devices, which sounds silly but you notice when it’s missing.

The location thing is interesting because it’s not in the postcard-perfect historic center, but that’s actually kind of perfect. You’re about a fifteen-minute walk to Place de la Bourse (you know, the famous water mirror), but you’re also right near the train station which is incredibly handy if you’re doing day trips to Saint-Émilion or heading to other cities. Plus, there’s this excellent little morning market just a few blocks away on Cours Victor Hugo where locals actually shop – none of that touristy overpriced stuff. The owners gave me directions to a wine bar called Le Flacon that I never would have found otherwise, tucked away in some tiny alley, and it ended up being one of my favorite evenings in Bordeaux. I mean, that’s the kind of local knowledge you’re hoping for but rarely get. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – it’s city center, after all – but they’ll help you figure out the best spots nearby. The whole experience just felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find, especially somewhere with an 8.9 rating that’s clearly not a secret anymore.

Amazing location. Amazing decoration and clean room. Just perfect.

  • Susanbeth from United States (9/10)

The room is up some steps…2 flights, not bad. But, what a great room! Good size room, very clean, plenty of light from window and lamps, right across from Jardin Parc, but very quiet with the windows closed. Plenty of outlets, very comfortable bed and pillows, great linens, large shower, Nespresso coffee maker, small rack to hang clothes, loved the towel warmer on the wall…very cute room. And the location is in walking distance to old town, many restaurants…really anything you are going to do. The tram system is fantastic. Jump on a 1/2 block away from B&B and you can take it everywhere. Breakfast every morning consisted of bakery fresh bread, jams, coffee, tea, yogurt. butter. Camille is very friendly and bubbly. She can answer many questions. Camille gave us the names of several restaurants, 2 that were really great were Chez Dupont and Le Noaillles, but La Pointe was nice as well.
