Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Au marche des Capucins? The name isn’t just some fancy marketing thing – you’re literally staying right in the heart of one of Bordeaux’s most authentic neighborhoods. I mean, step out the door on Rue du Hamel and you’re basically breathing distance from the Marché des Capucins, which honestly feels like the real soul of this city once you get past all the tourist wine tours.
The building itself has that weathered French charm you’d expect from this part of Bordeaux – nothing too polished, but that’s actually what I loved about it. It’s managed by Cocoonr, so you’re getting that apartment-style setup rather than the typical hotel experience, which works really well here. The 3-star rating feels about right; it’s comfortable without being fancy, and the 7.2 guest rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the location. Some places try too hard to be boutique-y, but this one just lets the neighborhood do the talking. The rooms are clean and functional – I actually appreciated that they didn’t go overboard with the décor because honestly, you’re not going to be spending much time inside anyway.
What really sold me on this place was how it plugs you into actual Bordeaux life. The Capucins market is this wonderful chaos of locals buying their daily bread and tourists trying to figure out which cheese won’t smell up their luggage (go with the Roquefort anyway). You’re maybe a fifteen-minute walk to the tram that’ll get you to the fancier Saint-Pierre district, but why rush? This area has its own rhythm – morning coffee at one of the corner cafés where they actually remember your order by day three, evening aperitifs at bars that don’t feel like they’re performing for visitors. The Garonne is close enough for those sunset walks everyone talks about, but you’re far enough from the main tourist drag that you won’t be dodging selfie sticks on your way to grab groceries.
Fair warning though – this isn’t the quietest corner of the city, especially on market days when the whole neighborhood wakes up early. But that energy is part of why staying here feels authentic rather than sanitized. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving (street spots fill up fast), and the building shows its age in small ways – creaky floors, windows that need a little coaxing. Nothing deal-breaking, just the kind of character that comes with staying somewhere that’s actually woven into the fabric of the city rather than sitting apart from it. If you want that “living like a local” experience without the hassle of figuring out a long-term rental, this spot delivers on that promise better than most places I’ve tried in Bordeaux.

Lovely modern apartment with better attention to cleaning would make it ideal for any couple. – Mark from Australia – 14 October 2022 (8/10)
Excellent location. city centre, river, market and all major attractions.close by. Apartment lovely with great view from bedroom. All appliances modern and easy car parking close by.
What could be improved: The cleaning of property was poor. Coffee stains on the cups and couple of benches sticky.Bad check-in, not so clean, but great location – Jeremy from United States – 29 July 2023 (4/10)
What could be improved: The check-in procedure was terrible. The guy normally hands you a key when you arrive, but I arrived later than expected, and there was no one there, and trying to call the phone number in the confirmation email gave nothing but a voicemail saying it was after hours, it suggests email. (But it says the address too fast to actually write down the email.) I found the Booking.com confirmation email, and emailed through there, got no reply, but found that on Booking.com he'd sent me a message with his actual phone number (not the one listed), telling me he'd left the key in a green lock box at the door. The door had no lock box. The door next to it (#56, not #58 as advertised) had two lock boxes, neither of which was green. Turns out he meant the grey lockbox on #56. Not a big difference, but when I can't get into an AirBnB I don't just start randomly trying all the neighbors, do you?
Once inside, the shower ceiling had big cobwebs and the wall ledge/shelf was so thick with dust it probably hadn't been cleaned in a year, and with a window shade that you can't raise enough to open the window behind it. (And you need to open the windows here when it's hot outside.) The spiral stairway was pretty but rickety–didn't feel that safe. There was a nail sticking up out of the floorboards that snagged my socks multiple times.
On the plus side, the location was great and the aesthetics were great. The wifi and kitchen worked. Also nice clothes washer/dryer.Excellent location, comfortable appartment, fantastic local market just in the neigbourhood. – Attila from Hungary – 3 August 2022 (9/10)
Breathtaking view from a window.
the many positives out weighted the one or two negatives – Kieran from United Kingdom – 15 April 2023 (9/10)
very compact and cute with everything you’d wish for. everything worked with no issues and there was plenty of toilet roll, knives, forks, glasses etc. the bed was very comfy
What could be improved: the area above the shower looks like it has never been cleaned. two massive spiders make home up there it is full of cobwebsdisappointing – Kerstin from Germany – 19 October 2022 (3/10)
What could be improved: Sophie came more than 25 minutes too late for the check-in.
The construction work for the neighbor apartment starts at 8.30 am. It was very loud, so we can’t sleep any more. There were obviously a roof fire some weeks or months before. There was a burning smell all over. Because of the work the hallway was black with soot. So all our clothes and shoes were black when we went out.
The floor in the apartment creaks extremely, so my partner woke up when I have to go to the toilet at night. The rest was as shown in Booking.com.Good – Maria from Poland – 18 October 2023 (7/10)
Standard mieszkania adekwatny do ceny. Mi nie przeszkadzało ze trzeba wejść po schodach na 3 piętro.
Pierwszego poranka w zlewie siedziała wielka stonoga.
Poduszki wygodne. Duży plus za kapsułki do prania i ekspresu do kawy.
Wieczorem warto zamknąć okno od wc bo czuć zapachy z restauracji.
What could be improved: Można by poprawić czystość w lokalu.Prima für einen Kurztrip nach Bordeaux! – Jana from Germany – 16 August 2023 (7/10)
Nette kleine Wohnung in einer Seitenstraße. Alles vorhanden was man braucht.
What could be improved: Ausstattung teilweise in die Jahre gekommen. Treppe war etwas wacklig. Oberlicht über der Dusche ein wahres Staub- und Spinnenparadies.
