You know what caught me off guard about Au 47? It’s tucked right into this lively stretch of Rue De Ruat where you’ve got actual Bordelaise going about their day – not just tourists snapping photos of everything. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Bordeaux’s city center, but it doesn’t feel like you’re staying in some sterile tourist bubble.

The building itself has that classic French charm without trying too hard, if that makes sense. Three stars might sound modest, but honestly, I’ve stayed at supposedly fancier places that felt way more generic. What I really appreciated was how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood – when I asked about grabbing coffee that wasn’t overpriced tourist trap stuff, they pointed me to this little place two blocks down that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are comfortable in that unpretentious French way, and here’s something that mattered more than I expected: it’s surprisingly quiet for being so central. You get the energy of the city center without feeling like you’re sleeping next to a nightclub.

Location-wise, you’re walking distance from pretty much everything that matters in Bordeaux. The tram stops are close enough that you don’t need to think twice about heading out to the wine regions for a day, but you can also just wander the old streets around here and stumble into great little wine bars and bistros. I actually ended up eating dinner most nights within a few blocks of the hotel because the neighborhood has that perfect mix of places locals frequent and spots that welcome visitors without making you feel like an outsider. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it gets the important stuff right and doesn’t charge you an arm and a leg for the privilege of staying somewhere that actually feels connected to the city you came to experience.
