Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about these apartments on Rue du Manège – they’re exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place in Bordeaux’s city center, nothing more, nothing less. The building itself has that typical French apartment feel, you know, with those high ceilings and windows that actually open (thank god), though the street can get a bit noisy if you’re a light sleeper. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of everything, so there’s going to be some hustle and bustle.
What I actually loved about staying here was how genuinely central it is without being touristy-central, if that makes sense. You’re a quick walk to Place Gambetta – maybe three minutes if you’re not dawdling – and honestly, that’s where the real Bordeaux happens. The morning market sounds drift up to your windows, and there’s this little bakery right around the corner on Rue Judaïque that does these incredible pain au chocolat (the owner’s a bit gruff but the pastries are worth it). The apartments themselves are… well, they’re functional. Clean, decent-sized for European standards, and the kitchenettes are actually usable if you want to grab some cheese and wine from the Monoprix down the street instead of eating out every meal.
Here’s the thing though – and this is important – parking is absolutely brutal in this area. I’d seriously consider the train if you’re coming from outside the city, because finding a spot can turn into a two-hour ordeal, especially during wine season when everyone and their mother descends on Bordeaux. The staff at check-in were pretty helpful about this actually, they gave me some local tips about where to find street parking that wasn’t completely impossible. The 7.4 rating feels about right honestly – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it won’t disappoint either. The WiFi works, the shower has decent pressure, and you can walk to the tram stop in under five minutes if you need to get out to the wine regions. What more do you really need when you’re spending most of your time wandering around those gorgeous limestone buildings and sitting in café terraces anyway?

Reviews
Great apartment in fab location – Michelle from United Kingdom – 10 April 2024 (8/10)
The apartment was lovely – better than the pictures and very comfortable. Great location with just a short walk and you're right in the centre. The Carrefoure across the road and a large Auchan close by was very convenient.
Having a complimentary cab from the airport and Loïc waiting to meet and greet us was so appreciated.
What could be improved: Unfortunately there wasn't any toilet paper in the apartment which was inconvenient as we arrived after shops were closed. Also, no extra garbage bags were there.Great location in comfortable apartment. – Felicity from Australia – 15 August 2024 (8/10)
We arrived into Bordeaux early and were able to check-in ~5 hours early which was great after an early train ride from Paris. The location was fantastic, within walking distance to the main shops and restaurants. The apartment was very comfortable for the 4 of us travelling together.
What could be improved: Unfortunately it was extremely hot when we stayed (39 degrees) and made it quite uncomfortable in the apartment, however both rooms had a pedestal fan which helped.Great location in a lovely building spoilt by poor communication and very last minute change. – Nicholas from United Kingdom – 31 May 2024 (7/10)
Great location. Building itself was beautiful the apartment itself was disappointing in the context of the building and the location
What could be improved: We originally booked another property. We went to the property as advised by the owner/owner representative. Waited for 1 hour to get a phone call to say the property was no longer available and we could have the property this review is about. We had to cross the city again! No offer of transport or costs. We were told the property would be ready when we got across, but again we had to wait for nearly an hour. Most of our first evening was lost as a result of these last minute changes.
The apartment itself had a very dated interior. All kitchen units need replaced and a makeshift toilet door of 2 repurposed Louvre doors which didn’t close properly was wholly unacceptable.
On a positive note the staff who were cleaning the apartment when we eventually got in were really nice people.
Poor poor communication from the owner/owner representative.Spacious and central stay that could use some heart – Alina from Ireland – 30 May 2024 (7/10)
It was central, well equipped, spacious, although small things like missing wine bottle opener (we bought one and left it in the apartment for the next traveler), dirty under counter space, remaining rubbish from previous guests, no dishwasher tablets or washing machine powder, empty olive oil bottle, empty salter, could use a little heart. Bathroom was gorgeous, comfy bathtub was nice, enough towels and two beds, which were comfortable.
What could be improved: It is an old building which means no elevator and a lot of noise from the neighbours even walking above you, noise from the street etc. So it was not hugely quiet although it was ok, we got used to it after a few days. They charge you for arrival in the night, our flight was arriving at 23:00, which I informed them about a month in advance, so we had to pay 40€ for the person to meet us although there was absolutely no need – the key was in the key box with a lock at the doors of the building anyway. We were two adults and one baby, we asked for a second key since it is tricky to manage baby’s sleep in such a place, and when one of us would need to go all the way down to let the other one in. We did not receive the second key as the agency was closed or smth (for all 5 days of our stay?) and were told to leave the key in the locked box downstairs, which again is a bit more tricky than we would like it. And then – beware of the “deposit” – which you have to pay before you arrive, which is €52.30, meant for cleaning and linen, plus their fees – so linen would otherwise be not included in the apartment that costed us nearly €150 per night? So count almost €100 extra on top of what booking.com shows you as a price if you arrive after 8pm. Then noone was replying to the WhatsApp number that they share with you a few days before the arrival from the guest book. The Wifi access shared in that online guestbook was also incorrect.Excellent – Mary from Ireland – 13 September 2024 (10/10)
This property was absolutely perfect for our 4 night trip to Bordeaux. Chris met us and we were lucky to check in early. The 2 bedroomed apartment was spotless and beautiful. There was a little supermaeket right beside us on the corner. We would definitely stay here again.
What could be improved: There was nothing I could faultPassable – Georgios from Greece – 26 April 2024 (5/10)
What could be improved: The bed sheets were dirty and i didn't like that. Other than that, the accomodation was good
I would think 3 times. – Nath from Malta – 22 September 2024 (5/10)
Very Centralized. A convenience shop right across the street.
What could be improved: Musty smell, especially at the stairs. You spend about 2 to 3 minutes trying to open the main door because the lock needs to be changed. I paid €49 for the cleaning, and we had to take out the garbage ourselves as instructed. TV does not work.Booking .com should cancel this property! – Louise from France – 4 July 2024 (1/10)
The location is good for access to the centre ville.
What could be improved: The sevice was absolutely apalling. I received an email asking for a payment for cleaning and linen a few days before. We wanted to clean the property ourselves, but this is not allowed unless you bring your own linen too – the costs cannot be separated. We paid & were told the concierge would be in touch to arrange the meeting for keys – that did not happen. We phoned and messaged multiple times without luck. Eventually, late on the night before our departure, a man answered the phone & said that concierge had left & he would ask the new one to contact us. We heard nothing. We had to travel to Bordeaux the next day not knowing if we had a place to sleep that night!
Eventually we received a message & someone met us to let us in. We were told our flat was being decorated, so we were relocated to another. The key didn't fit well, so she said she would bring another. There was no toilet paper & she said she would bring that too.
After she left, we tried to get the wifi, but the QR didn't work. We phoned and were told the code was on the modem box. When I picked it up, it fell apart. We tried to call again, no reply. We NEVER saw her again in 3 days – not even a message to say where to leave the key on our departure, or if someone would meet us.
Cleanliness – filthy cutlery in the drawer, dirty plates in the cupboard, and BLOOD on sheets. Disgusting. The outside bin was full to overflowing when we arrived and was never emptied.
Furnishings – 2 broken lamps, one hanging dangerously to one side, a chair without an arm?
I phoned the main office numerous times while away – never answered. I've now sent photos & letter as above, but received no response, no recompense for the anxiety, stress, & upset to our holiday. We felt completely ignored.
DISGUSTED!Lovely city, disappointing experience with the apartment. – Morris from United Kingdom – 13 June 2024 (5/10)
Quite a stylish top floor apartment in a period stone building. Useful supermarket just across the road, the apartment isn't far from the tram line, taking you either into the old town or to/from the airport.
What could be improved: The WiFi didn't work at all. I was very disappointed with their handling of this. Lauriane is charming, but she's not the one in charge – she said she'd arrange to move us to another property but then I never heard from her again. Marcel calls the shots and was unresponsive – his reply that it normally works (in French, he doesn't speak English) was entirely unhelpful. I asked if he would have it fixed and he never responded (I'm not saying everyone should speak English, but if you don't and you also have no customer service skills, then maybe you're in the wrong business).
The apartment is getting shabby. The loo door doesn't close (let alone have a lock). If you're thinking of using the sofa bed in the living room, it's broken. The windows in the apartment are along the back, opening on to a busy main road – the apartment is noisy if the windows are open (and they need to be – it gets hot there). The wooden floor is really creaky (someone has done a terrible job of putting that down), which sounds like a minor moan but you wouldn't believe how bad it is; would be a real problem if there were more than two sharing the apartment.
Bordeaux is an elegant city. The stark exception is the Meriadeck district, a bleak 60s/70s brutalist concrete redevelopment that stretches over several blocks. That starts the other side of the road to the apartment to the south, which means the area really isn't particularly interesting.Passable – Matteo from Italy – 9 May 2024 (5/10)
