Hotel Description
You know what surprised me most about staying at Appartements Climatises en Hyper Centre? The name is honestly terrible – it sounds like something Google Translate spat out – but the place itself is actually pretty solid. I mean, when you’re walking down Rue Lafaurie de Monbadon (try saying that three times fast), you’d almost miss the entrance if you weren’t looking for it. It’s tucked right into this typical Bordeaux street with those gorgeous cream-colored stone buildings, and honestly, that’s part of the charm.
The apartments themselves are what you’d expect from a well-maintained 3-star place, but here’s the thing – the air conditioning actually works, which is more than I can say for half the places I’ve stayed in France during summer. The units feel properly lived-in rather than sterile hotel-room clean, if that makes sense. There’s real coffee in the kitchen (not those sad instant packets), and the shower pressure is surprisingly decent. I stayed on the second floor and could hear a bit of street noise in the morning – nothing crazy, just the usual sounds of people heading to work and the occasional delivery truck. The wifi reached every corner of the apartment, which was clutch since I was working remotely part of the time.
What really sold me on this place was stepping outside and realizing I could walk to Place de la Bourse in maybe eight minutes, and the tram stop at Hôtel de Ville is literally around the corner. You’re close enough to duck into Galeries Lafayette when it starts raining (and it will), but far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with crowds of people taking selfies outside your front door at all hours. The little café on the corner – I think it’s called something with “Monbadon” in the name – makes a surprisingly good pain au chocolat, and the staff there started recognizing me after day two, which felt nice. There’s a Monoprix about a five-minute walk away for groceries, and if you’re into wine (I mean, you’re in Bordeaux, so hopefully you are), there are at least three decent wine bars within stumbling distance. The only minor annoyance was that check-in was a bit of a production – lots of forms and the person spoke very fast French – but once you’re settled, you barely interact with anyone unless you need something. For the price point and that location, honestly, you could do a lot worse in Bordeaux’s city center.
Early hotels booking in Bordeaux is essential during major events like the Wine Festival, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned vineyards and gastronomy.

Great central location and extremely friendly concierge Maria who was so helpful. Most enjoyable location just off the main hassle and bustle of the centre also 20 min walk to the tram out to the airport.

The location was excellent. You could walk to all the main attractions, the information centre was just down the road and trams were nearby. Cafes and restaurants everywhere. Laundromat just below the apartment which was very handy. The concierge, Marie was extremely helpful in getting the apartment ready for me to check in early which was very much appreciated. She was always easy to contact during my stay.

The apartment was ready for us at 10 am and because we had a very early flight (5.45 am) , it was fantastic to be able to check in so early. Also, as there was no lift, Marie and another young man carried our suitcases up 4 flights of stairs. I sent several texts enquiring about different things and each time I received a prompt reply.
