Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking up to 9 Rue Buhan, I was expecting just another cramped apartment rental, but honestly – this two-bedroom setup actually feels like someone put real thought into making it livable. The whole “rénové” thing isn’t just marketing speak here; they’ve clearly gutted and redone this place properly, and it shows in all the small details that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Bordeaux rather than just visiting it. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the historic center – I could walk to Place de la Bourse in about five minutes, maybe seven if I stopped to grab coffee at one of those tiny cafés along the way. What I really loved though was being close enough to Rue Sainte-Catherine for shopping (it gets crazy busy around lunch, fair warning), but tucked away enough on Rue Buhan that you’re not dealing with constant foot traffic outside your window. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux stone facade that photographs beautifully, though the stairs up are definitely… well, they’re old French building stairs, so pack light or be prepared for a workout.

Inside, the renovation work really shines – the two bedrooms are actually proper bedrooms, not those awkward spaces where someone just shoved a bed into a corner and called it good. The kitchen has everything you’d need if you want to hit the morning markets (Marché des Capucins is walkable, though it’s a bit of a trek with groceries). I appreciated that they kept some of the original character – exposed beams, that sort of thing – without making it feel like a museum. The Wi-Fi was solid, which honestly saved my trip since I had to handle some work stuff, and the shower pressure was surprisingly decent for an old building. Only real downside I noticed was that street noise can filter up in the mornings when delivery trucks start making their rounds, but that’s pretty much par for the course when you’re staying in the actual center of any French city. The 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and genuinely comfortable. For the price point and location, you’re getting solid value, especially if you’re the type who’d rather spend money on wine and food than on hotel amenities you won’t use anyway.

To book a hotel in Bordeaux during the wine harvest season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts wine enthusiasts from around the world.

The apt was clean and the beds were very comfortable, with a great flow of water from the shower. It is a very centrally located apt, very close to restaurants, bars and sights. Tram stops very close by. I would definitely return.
