Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about this place? The address actually tells you everything you need to know – Rue de la Course puts you right in the heart of Chartrons, and honestly, that’s half the battle won in Bordeaux. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Jardin Public, which sounds obvious given the name, but until you’re there sipping your morning coffee and realize you can just wander over to those gorgeous tree-lined paths whenever you want… well, it hits different.
The apartment itself is pretty much what you’d expect from a solid 3-star spot – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s clean. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even though you’re on a street that sees decent foot traffic during the day. The windows do their job, and at night the Chartrons district settles into this lovely residential calm. Parking can be a bit of a dance (welcome to Bordeaux), but there are spots if you’re patient, and honestly, once you’re settled, you’ll probably walk everywhere anyway. The tram’s close enough that getting to the city center or down to the river is no big deal – actually, I found myself walking along the Garonne most evenings because the route from here is just pleasant.
Here’s the thing about staying in Chartrons that the guidebooks don’t really capture – you’re in this perfect sweet spot between tourist Bordeaux and actual local life. Sure, you’ve got your antique shops and wine bars that visitors love, but you’ll also find yourself shopping at the same little épicerie as the neighbors, grabbing bread from bakeries that don’t have English menus. The Saturday market at Marché des Chartrons becomes part of your routine rather than a tourist attraction you have to plan for. And when friends ask about the 8.2 rating, I get it – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it delivers exactly what it promises. The check-in was straightforward, the space felt lived-in rather than sterile, and there’s something to be said for a place that just… works. You’ll spend your days exploring and come back to somewhere that feels temporary-homey, if that makes sense. Plus, and this might sound silly, but having the Jardin Public as your backyard means you always have somewhere to decompress when the city gets overwhelming.
