Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Appartement MONTESQUIEU? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street in Chartrons where you actually feel like you’re living in Bordeaux rather than just passing through. I mean, Rue Saint-Hubert isn’t one of those touristy strips – it’s got that authentic neighborhood vibe where you’ll hear more French than English, which honestly made the whole experience feel more genuine.

The apartment itself is pretty solid for what you’re paying. It’s got that classic Bordeaux architecture thing going on (you know, those cream-colored stone buildings that look effortlessly elegant), but inside it’s been updated enough that you’re not dealing with finicky old fixtures or weird plumbing issues. The space feels lived-in rather than sterile – there’s actual character here, not that generic hotel chain aesthetic. I particularly loved how the morning light came through the windows; it’s got this warm quality that made me want to linger over coffee instead of rushing out to sightsee. Speaking of which, the kitchen setup is actually functional if you want to grab stuff from the local market and cook something simple.

What really won me over though was the location – and I don’t mean that in the usual “convenient location” way travel sites always say. Chartrons has this whole antique dealer scene that most tourists completely miss, plus you’re walking distance from the quais along the Garonne where locals jog and walk their dogs. It’s maybe a 15-minute stroll to the main tourist areas around Place de la Bourse, but you’re far enough away that you won’t hear groups of drunk tourists stumbling back to their hotels at 2 AM. The tram line is close enough when you need it, but honestly, I found myself walking everywhere because the neighborhood itself is worth exploring. There’s this little bakery around the corner that does incredible pain au chocolat – the kind of place where the owner remembers your order after two visits. That 9.3 rating makes total sense to me because it delivers on the things that actually matter: it’s clean, comfortable, the wifi works properly (important for anyone trying to stay connected), and you feel like you’re experiencing real Bordeaux life rather than some sanitized version of it. Sure, it’s not luxury – it’s a 3-star place and feels like one – but sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

  • Great relaxing stay in Bordeaux. – Sara from Portugal – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

We had a great 3-day stay in Bordeaux at this apartment. It is located in a quiet neighborhood just a few blocks from the tram, restaurants, and the public garden. It is easy to walk to the river and historic center part of town or take the tram. There was street parking in front of the apartment. Sandra, the host, left a few food and drink items to welcome us. She sent directions in advance of our stay and responded promptly to a question. We had a lovely stay and highly recommend.
