The moment I walked into Appartement “Lafontaine,” it actually felt like someone’s home – not in that forced “home away from home” way hotels always claim, but genuinely cozy. It’s tucked right into the St Nicolas quarter, which honestly is one of those neighborhoods that feels properly Bordeaux without the tourist crowds you get around Place de la Bourse. The building itself has that classic French apartment vibe, and when you’re walking up Rue Lafontaine, you’ll notice it’s this quiet residential street where you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic.

The apartment itself is what I’d call thoughtfully put together – someone clearly spent time making sure everything works properly instead of just looking good in photos. The kitchen actually has sharp knives (miracle!), and there’s enough space to spread out, which you really appreciate after a few days of hotel rooms. What I really liked was how they’ve managed to keep the original character – those tall French windows, the old floors that creak just enough to feel authentic but not enough to be annoying. The whole St Nicolas area is perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Bordeaux rather than just visiting it. There’s this little bakery maybe two minutes away that locals queue up at every morning, and honestly, watching that routine became part of my daily ritual.

Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the city center, but here’s the thing – it’s a really pleasant fifteen minutes through actual neighborhoods where people live and work. You’ll pass the covered market at Marché des Capucins (definitely worth exploring), and if you’re into wine – I mean, you’re in Bordeaux, so hopefully you are – there are some excellent independent wine bars tucked into the streets between the apartment and downtown that you’d never find if you were staying in the hotel district. The tram’s close enough when you need it, but I found myself walking everywhere because the streets are just… nice to walk through. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving, but that’s pretty much true anywhere in Bordeaux that’s worth staying in. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything about the place suggests someone who knows what travelers actually need versus what looks good in marketing photos.

  El apartamento está muy bien. Las instalaciones son modernas y está cerca del centro (20 minutos caminando) . Ademas hay un supermercado al lado que resulta muy cómodo. La chica que lo lleva respondió a todas las dudas (como por ejemplo un parking cercano) sin ningún problema, muy predispuesta a ayudar.

  Très bon séjour à Bordeaux et grand merci à la propriétaire pour sa générosité, en effet suite à un problème technique qui a rendu l'accès à l'appartement impossible, la propriétaire a de suite été très réactive en proposant de nous louer une autre chambre ailleurs (hôtel ou autre) à notre convenance avec en plus les petits-déjeuners offerts ! En 30 minutes c'était fait ! Je tiens à la remercier et saluer sa réactivité. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour grâce à elle.
