Hotel Description

So I stayed at this duplex apartment on Rue Furtado, and honestly? It’s one of those places that catches you off guard in the best way. You know how sometimes you book a place online and it’s just… fine? This wasn’t that. The Appartement Duplex Andréia actually feels like someone’s carefully curated home that they happen to let travelers crash in, which is exactly what you want in Bordeaux.

The location is pretty brilliant if you know the city at all. Rue Furtado sits in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to the tram lines – the Bergonié stop is maybe eight minutes on foot – but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional late-night conversation from people walking home from dinner, but it’s that gentle urban hum rather than party noise. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux stone facade that photographs beautifully in the morning light, and the apartment spans two floors which gives it this unexpectedly spacious feel. There’s something about having the bedroom upstairs that makes it feel more like a real home than a typical rental. The kitchen is actually functional too – I made coffee every morning and even attempted some market finds for dinner one night. The local Monoprix is literally around the corner, but if you venture just a bit further toward Cours de la Marne, you’ll hit some fantastic little specialty shops that the locals actually use.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to small details that matter when you’re living somewhere for more than just a night or two. The Wi-Fi works everywhere (even upstairs, which isn’t always a given in these old buildings), there are proper blackout curtains in the bedroom, and – this might sound weird but it matters – the shower has actual water pressure. The Welkeys management was refreshingly straightforward with check-in; they send you codes ahead of time so you’re not standing around waiting for someone to show up with keys. I arrived on a Sunday evening and everything worked exactly as promised. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the stairs between floors are a bit steep, so if you’re hauling heavy luggage or have mobility concerns, just keep that in mind. But honestly, for a 4-star place in this part of Bordeaux, the value is pretty exceptional. You’re paying for location and quality, not fancy amenities you won’t use. It’s the kind of place where you can picture yourself actually living in the city for a week or two, grabbing morning pastries from the boulangerie down the street, and feeling like you belong in the neighborhood rather than just passing through it.
