Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about this place? It’s actually on Rue Louis Liard, which honestly most tourists have never heard of – but that’s exactly why I ended up loving it. You’re maybe a 10-minute walk from Place Gambetta, tucked into this residential stretch where actual Bordelais live their daily lives. I mean, there’s a boulangerie right around the corner where the baker clearly knows everyone’s usual order, and you’ll hear more French than English on the streets, which felt pretty authentic.
The apartment itself is… well, it’s solid three-star territory, nothing fancy but genuinely comfortable. The kitchen actually works (I made coffee every morning and cooked a simple dinner one night), and honestly, after staying in hotels where you can’t even open a window properly, having real space to spread out felt luxurious. The Wi-Fi was reliable – I worked from the little dining table a couple afternoons without issues. One thing though: if you’re a super light sleeper, the street can get a bit lively on weekend evenings, but it’s not rowdy tourist noise, just neighbors heading out for dinner. Actually kind of charming once you get used to it.
Location-wise, this is where it gets interesting. You’re close enough to walk to the Jardin Public when you need some greenery, but far enough from the main tourist drag that restaurant prices drop noticeably. There’s this wine bar – Cave de la Monnaie – about six blocks away that I stumbled onto, clearly a local spot where I had one of my best meals in Bordeaux. The tram stop at Gambetta connects you everywhere you need to go, and parking (if you’re driving) isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the cathedral area. I managed to find street parking most days, though you’ll want to move your car on market mornings.
What I really appreciated was how the host handled everything – smooth check-in, responded quickly when I had a question about the heating, and left actually useful local recommendations, not just the obvious tourist stuff. The apartment felt lived-in in the best way, like staying in a friend’s place rather than some sterile rental. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with marble bathrooms or designer furniture, but everything works, it’s clean, and you’ll have proper counter space to enjoy those pastries from the morning market. For the price point and the genuine neighborhood feel, I’d definitely stay here again – especially if I wanted to experience Bordeaux like someone who actually lives there, not just passes through.
