Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking up to 36 Rue Borie, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the street view – it’s just a quiet residential block in Chartrons – but once you’re inside, the apartment actually feels way more spacious than you’d think for a three-person setup. The air conditioning was the first thing I noticed (thank god, because Bordeaux summers can be brutal), and it’s not one of those wimpy units that barely works. I mean, it actually cools the whole space properly.

The Chartrons neighborhood is sort of having this moment right now – it’s where locals go when they want to feel like they’re discovering something new, even though it’s been there forever. You’re basically a five-minute walk from the Saturday organic market on Quai des Chartrons, and honestly, that’s where you’ll want to grab your morning coffee and pastries anyway. The apartment sits perfectly between the trendy wine bars that have been popping up everywhere (seriously, there’s like three new ones just on Cours Portal) and the more traditional bistros where you can still get a proper meal without Instagram prices. What I really appreciated was how quiet Rue Borie stays, even on weekend nights when the main strips get pretty lively – you get all the neighborhood energy without the noise carrying into your bedroom.

The practical stuff matters too, and this place gets it right. Check-in was straightforward, parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the city center (there’s actually street spots if you circle the block a couple times), and the apartment itself has that lived-in feeling that makes you comfortable immediately. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to cook – which you probably will after hitting that market I mentioned – and the bathroom’s modern enough that you don’t feel like you’re staying in someone’s grandmother’s place. I keep coming back to the location because it really makes the whole experience work. You can walk to the CAPC contemporary art museum in maybe eight minutes, grab the tram right into Bordeaux’s historic center whenever you want, but you’re also in this pocket of the city that still feels authentically local. The rating makes sense too – it’s not trying to be some luxury experience, but everything works exactly like it should, and you end up feeling like you’re staying somewhere real instead of some generic rental unit.

Reviews

  • Great position for exploring the City. Close to 2 tram lines – Lynda from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (10/10)

    Very comfortable, charming room.

What could be improved: Nothing at all

  • Very good – Lori from Canada – 1 July 2025 (8/10)
