Hotel Description
You know what? The Appart-Hôtel Mer & Golf City isn’t going to blow you away at first glance – it’s sitting there on rue de Gironde in what used to be an industrial part of Bordeaux – but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it interesting. The Bassins à flot area has this really cool vibe now, sort of caught between its shipping past and this whole urban renewal thing that’s happening. When I first walked up, I actually thought I might be in the wrong place because the building looks pretty modern against all these old warehouse conversions, but then you realize that’s the whole point of this neighborhood.
The apartment-style rooms are where this place really makes sense, especially if you’re staying more than a couple nights. I mean, having a little kitchenette changes everything – you can grab fresh stuff from the market at Place des Capucins (maybe a 15-minute walk) and actually cook instead of eating out every meal. The rooms themselves are clean and functional, nothing fancy but honestly more spacious than most hotel rooms you’ll find in central Bordeaux for the price. The beds are decent, though the pillows could be fluffier – minor complaint, really. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which surprised me given that you’re pretty close to the river and all the development happening around the submarine base area.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re there – you’re actually walking distance to some of Bordeaux’s newest attractions, like the submarine base that’s been turned into this digital art space, and the whole waterfront promenade along the Garonne is right there. Sure, you’re not in the postcard-pretty old town, but the tram line 1 literally stops nearby and gets you to Place de la Comédie in about ten minutes. Plus, parking here is so much easier than anywhere near the cathedral or Grand Théâtre – trust me on this one. The staff at check-in were pretty helpful with directions, though their English is hit-or-miss depending on who’s working. I’d give the whole experience about a 7.9 out of 10, which feels right – it’s solid, practical, and gives you a different perspective on Bordeaux that most tourists miss. If you want to feel less like a tourist and more like someone who’s actually staying in the city for a while, this works really well.
Apartments in Bordeaux provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at neighborhood markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Aquitaine region.
