Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Appart’City Classic Bordeaux Centre – it’s one of those places that grows on you once you figure out what it’s actually trying to be. When I first walked up to 36 Rue Général Larminat, I honestly thought I’d booked the wrong place because the entrance is pretty understated, almost hidden between a couple of typical Bordeaux stone buildings. But here’s the thing – that’s actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it. The aparthotel concept means you get a proper kitchenette (and I mean proper, not just a mini-fridge and a prayer), which becomes incredibly handy when you realize the Marché des Capucins is literally a ten-minute walk away. You know what I loved? Coming back with fresh oysters and that ridiculously good bread from the morning market, then actually having somewhere decent to prepare them.
The location is honestly brilliant once you get your bearings. You’re right in that sweet spot where locals actually live – close enough to walk to Place de la Bourse when you want those Instagram shots, but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can grab coffee at the corner café without fighting through crowds. Rue Sainte-Catherine, which is basically Bordeaux’s main shopping artery, is maybe five minutes on foot, and the tram stops right there if your feet give out from all the wine tour walking. Speaking of wine – and this is something the booking sites don’t tell you – you’re perfectly positioned for both the fancy cellars in the old town and the more authentic wine bars that locals frequent along Cours de l’Intendance. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re functional in that efficient French way. Clean lines, everything works, but don’t expect luxury touches. The bed was actually quite comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the shower had proper water pressure, which honestly matters more than fancy toiletries when you’ve been walking cobblestones all day.
What really sold me on this place was the staff – they have that rare combination of being helpful without being pushy, and the woman at reception gave me better restaurant recommendations than my guidebook did. She steered me away from the tourist traps near the cathedral and toward this incredible little bistro where I had the best canelés of my entire trip. The building itself has character without being annoyingly quirky – you can hear the city waking up in the morning, but it’s not disruptively noisy, and there’s something satisfying about the heavy wooden doors and thick walls that make you feel properly settled in Bordeaux rather than just passing through. Is it perfect? No – the WiFi can be spotty, and the elevator is one of those tiny European ones that barely fits you and your luggage. But for the price point and the genuine neighborhood feel, it’s exactly what you want if you’re planning to actually explore Bordeaux rather than just tick it off a list.

Booking.com had a few issues with our stay in Bordeaux, including a problem with the booking at this location. Staff at 5his location handled it wonderfully and made us feel very welcome. Special kudos to Pierre and Alex for their help.

Being high up w corner room, I’d windows all along both walls. Shape of apt, w bedroom area separate from kitchen by a hallway.

Location near the stadium. Good value for money.
Norm from Australia (7/10)
We chose the hotel on the criteria of being near the attractions of the city but on a transport (tram) line to the airport for when we were leaving. Check-in was fine, room was good with all the facilities we needed. Place was clean and tidy – and again the window could be open. Staff were helpful.

The room was basic but had everything you need for a short stay. Quiet, very close to a tram stop, the little kitchenette had cooking equipment (small kettle, pots, pans, plates, cutlery) but no oil, salt or pepper etc. Overall a great place to stay for a long weekend if you want to cook some basic meals.
