Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked up to this place on Rue Borie, I wasn’t expecting much – it’s tucked between a wine shop and what looks like someone’s grandmother’s shuttered townhouse. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes it perfect. This little apartment sits right in the sweet spot of Chartrons, where you’re close enough to hear the morning vendors setting up at the weekend markets but far enough from the touristy waterfront to actually get some sleep.
The apartment itself feels like staying at a friend’s place – I mean that in the best way possible. It’s got that lived-in comfort without being shabby, and whoever set it up actually thought about what travelers need. The kitchen’s small but functional (there’s even a decent coffee maker, thank god), and the bedroom window opens onto one of those quintessentially French courtyards where neighbors hang laundry and cats sunbathe on windowsills. The shower pressure is surprisingly good – something you learn to appreciate after bouncing around European apartments for a while. What really won me over was the little details: proper blackout curtains, enough outlets near the bed, and a dining table that’s actually big enough to spread out a map or work on your laptop.
Location-wise, you’re golden here. Walk five minutes toward the river and you’ll hit Cours Xavier Arnozan with its Sunday antique market – locals still shop there, so prices haven’t gone completely insane yet. The other direction takes you into the heart of Chartrons’ wine district, where you can stumble into tasting rooms that feel more like someone’s living room than a business. I spent way too much money at Badie just around the corner, but their natural wine selection is incredible. For groceries, there’s a Monoprix about ten minutes away, or if you want to feel fancy, the little fromagerie on Rue Notre Dame has cheese that’ll ruin you for anything back home. The tram stop at Chartrons is close enough to reach the city center in about fifteen minutes, though honestly, you might find yourself wanting to stay in the neighborhood – it’s got this village-y feel that makes the rest of Bordeaux seem almost too polished. Parking can be tricky during market days, but the owner gives solid advice about where to find spots. Just don’t expect luxury hotel service – this is more about experiencing Bordeaux like you actually live there for a few days.
