Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about the Adagio Bordeaux Centre Gambetta? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street – Rue Edmond Michelet – but you’re literally a three-minute walk from Place Gambetta with all its cafés and that gorgeous circular layout. I mean, most aparthotels dump you in some sterile business district, but this one sits right in the thick of real Bordeaux life. The building itself has this understated French elegance thing going on, nothing flashy, but when you walk in there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about the details. The lobby smells faintly of coffee and has these warm wood tones that don’t scream “corporate chain.”

What really sold me on this place was the apartment setup – and I’m usually skeptical of these hybrid hotel-apartment concepts. The kitchenettes are actually functional (shocking, I know), with a proper stovetop and decent-sized fridge, which honestly saved me a fortune since eating out in Bordeaux every meal would’ve bankrupted me. The living areas feel genuinely livable, not like someone just shoved a couch into a hotel room and called it an apartment. I stayed in one of the studios on the fourth floor, and the windows opened onto this charming view of typical Bordeaux architecture – those cream-colored buildings with the iron balconies that make you feel like you’re in a French film. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too, none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense you sometimes get.

Here’s the thing though – and this is where that 8.6 rating makes total sense – it’s not perfect, but it’s really, really good at what it does. The Wi-Fi actually works (tested it on multiple video calls), the shower has proper water pressure, and the staff at reception genuinely seem to know the neighborhood. When I asked about where to grab groceries, the guy didn’t just point me to the nearest tourist trap but sent me to this little Monoprix about five minutes away where locals actually shop. The area gets pretty quiet at night, which is perfect if you’re trying to recover from too much Bordeaux wine, but you’re still close enough to the tram lines that getting to the historic center or down to the Garonne riverfront is effortless. Honestly, if you’re planning to stay more than a couple nights and want to live like a temporary local rather than just pass through as a tourist, this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity that’s surprisingly hard to find.

Large spacious room. There is a kitchen and all the accessories. There is a bathroom + shower. The room was divided by a partition if necessary. On the first floor there is a sauna (in the evening) + a gym. The girls at the reception are very polite and attentive, they told us everything, prompted us, very quickly and professionally. We reserved parking when we arrived, we were given the parking space number.

The location is ideal, just a short walk from the old town with bus stops virtually outside the hotel and tram stops just a few minutes' walk away. There's a huge Auchan supermarket in the Meriadeck Shopping Centre around the corner, a boulangerie across the square from the hotel and a branch of Picard next door. The A tram took us from outside the terminal at Bordeaux Airport to within a few minutes' walk of the aparthotel. Our spacious room consisted of seating and dining areas, a well-equipped kitchenette with a good sized-fridge, a dishwasher, a stovetop and a microwave, a sleeping area with plenty of storage, good lighting and a large comfortable bed, and a good bath-sized bathroom with a walk-in shower and a full-sized bath, plus a separate toilet. Everything was in good repair, was spotlessly clean and worked well. Our room was located on the 5th floor and had a long balcony overlooking a tree-lined inner courtyard. It was very quiet and we slept well. Check in and out was very efficient and friendly. Housekeeping is only included in the hotel rate for stays of 7 nights or more, and can otherwise be requested for an additional payment. We had no problem with the lack of housekeeping as we enjoy our privacy and also prefer to clean up after ourselves (there was a room with trash bins on the ground floor and a supply of new rubbish bags available on request from reception). Our room-only rate was great value and we would happily stay in Adagio Bordeaux Centre Gambetta again.
